Venus Williams praised by Serena Williams husband Alexis Ohanian
Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Venus Williams shared an emotional post on her official Instagram handle as she celebrated the 28th anniversary of her professional tennis debut. There is no denying the fact that Venus’s journey of becoming the top tennis women player in history is one of the most beautiful journeys that saw Women’s tennis transformation.
For the uninitiated, Venus Williams is considered one of the greatest female tennis players of her generation as she gave new respect and direction to Women’s tennis. She, along with her younger sister Serena Williams, had been the flag-bearer of women’s tennis in the world for almost the past two decades on the back of their impeccable performances in some of the most prominent and grand tournaments. However, unlike her younger sister, who has already declared her retirement from professional tennis, the four-time Olympic gold medalist has declared no such intention.
In fact, the seven-time Grand Slam champion is working on her rigorous training routine and is all set for the upcoming season.
“On this day 28 years ago, I made my debut to professional tennis. I never imagined 28 years later what @serenawilliams and I would experience in this sport. I can recount the wins and the losses, but in the end it was always about the pursuit of my best self. Every day, win lose or draw. I can look back with no regrets. It’s all been worth it,” she posted.
As expected, as soon as the post was made public, several fans, followers, and many prominent faces of the tennis community chimed in to congratulate her for the incredible feat. Meanwhile, Alexis Ohanian, husband of Serena Williams, reacted with a cheeky caption, honoring the former World No.1.
“She’s literally on the court outside my office practicing right now! WTG @Venuseswilliams“
In the last 28 years, she has won every single title. She won the Wimbledon women’s singles title five times and the US Open two times. The former World No.1 also won the Australian Open and French Open mixed doubles titles back in 1998. The American won the Olympic gold medal four times and one silver medal. Also, she won the WTA Finals trophy in 2008.
The 41-year-old is the reason women’s tennis is so popular in the world. And she is not done yet!
Serena and Venus Williams- A formidable force
Venus Williams and Serena Williams are probably two of the most followed female tennis players. They have been around together for more than the past two decades on the court. They cherished each other’s dreams, enjoyed each other’s wins, and shed a tear at each other’s loss.
In this journey, they have helped to build each other. Famously called the ‘Williams Sisters’, they have managed to bang 14 Grand Slam titles and 3 Olympic gold medals. Both of them enjoyed World No.1 doubles ranking for a long period. They share a bond that is seen rarely in individual sports nowadays.
Although Serena Williams retired, after playing her last match in the US Open in 2022, Venus Williams is still there on the court every day, training hard and battling to make herself count, that too in the twilight of her career.
