Portraying MMA great Mark Kerr on the big screen has turned out to be a career-altering decision for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. After receiving worldwide acclaim for his spellbinding performance in The Smashing Machine, he has now been nominated for Best Male Actor for the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.

WWE acknowledged this recognition for its ‘Final Boss’ during the live broadcast of Raw this Monday. The red brand’s play-by-play commentator Joe Tessitore made the formal announcement, extending best wishes for The Rock from his side as well as the entire WWE family.

The company’s chief content officer, Triple H, also gave a shoutout to ‘The Great One’ via X. But how has Johnson reacted to it? In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, the 53-year-old revealed that Ryan Coogler was the one to break him the news of his Golden Globes nomination.

After getting up at around 6 in the morning, ‘The Brahma Bull’ turned off airplane mode on his phone and realized that Coogler had texted him. Even though Johnson also had to wake up his girls, he decided to open up the message that Ryan had sent, and it said, “Congratulations, brother.”

It didn’t take long for ‘The Final Boss’ to find out that he had about 250 other texts in his inbox waiting to be opened up by him. Now that he has been nominated for the Best Male Actor category, everyone’s eyes will be peeled on January 11, the evening that will decide the fate of Johnson.

While his R-rated sports drama bombed at the box office, with global collections not even recovering half the amount spent on the movie’s production and marketing, Johnson gave his all. He did justice to the ask of Mark Kerr’s biopic, which dove into the MMA icon’s real-life struggle with painkillers and opioid addiction.

Could The Rock appear at Saturday Night’s Main Event for John Cena’s last WWE match?

While it’s been months since The Rock‘s last WWE appearance, he could be gearing up for one this weekend. To be precise, there have been no rumblings in media circles up until this point as to whether or not ‘The Great One’ will stop by the Capital One Arena for John Cena‘s last match. However, the fans are anticipating it to happen regardless of everything that went down earlier this year.

The fans are no strangers to the tight-lipped fallout between Johnson and WWE after ‘The Final Boss’ played a huge part in turning Cena heel. The former 10-time WWE Champion was accused by wrestling pundits and a big chunk of the audience of ditching the company amid its most buzzworthy storyline high and dry. Enough time has passed, and the blame game seems like a broken record.

But if there ever was a perfect opportunity to mend some fences, it’s this weekend. The Rock could make a surprise appearance at Saturday Night’s Main Event to deliver a farewell speech for one of his greatest WWE rivals.

While it wouldn’t undo the ripple effects Johnson’s exit had on Cena’s heel run, that one last on-screen interaction between these legends would certainly be enough to melt thousands of heavy hearts in the building that very night.

‘The Cenation Leader’ recently described his relationship with The Rock during a sit-down interview with Tom Rinaldi. Calling their relationship timeline dependent, Cena revealed the first time he met the Black Adam star. It was back in 2000 when ‘Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect’ used to work at the Gold’s Gym in Venice. He had gotten himself clicked arm-in-arm with The Rock, but that hasn’t made it to the internet.

However, the picture that did see the light of day was Cena walking out of the doorway while ‘The Great One’ was posing with someone else. Circling back to The Prototype’s stance on Dwayne Johnson, he admitted that they’ve been through some bumpy roads, but also on the way were beautiful scenes.

At last, the 17-time world champion expressed gratitude for the fact that he’s been connected with Rock for the last 25 years.
