Drew McIntyre and CM Punk have both gone above and beyond to build up hype for their match. They’ve talked each other down in interviews and had a ton of social media banter. However, the Scottish warrior may have taken things a little too far when he referenced the Chicago native’s past in AEW and posted a photo with his real-life rival Jack Perry.

WWE surprisingly acknowledged this photo during the latest episode of Raw. McIntyre was making his entrance to the ring to confront his rival. During his entrance, Michael Cole mentioned how the Iyre-born wrestler was stirring things up on social media over the past week by digging up things from Punk’s past.

McIntyre had posted a photo with Jack Perry on his X account. Further, he captioned the photo, saying, “It’s a real photo; cry us a river.” This was an obvious reference to the Best in the World’s backstage brawl with the AEW TNT Champion at All In 2023.

Drew McIntyre deleted this photo from his social media account only a few hours after it went live. Many thought this was because WWE may have asked him to take it down. However, the promotion referring to the post on live TV does not fit this story.

WWE is less than a week away from hosting SummerSlam 2024, where CM Punk will have his first singles match in WWE in more than a decade. He will finally get his hands on his rival of more than eight months, with Seth Rollins acting as a special guest referee for their match.

Thunder Rosa showers praise on Drew McIntyre for his recent shot at CM Punk

McIntyre’s reference to Punk’s past was appreciated by fans and wrestlers alike. Even AEW superstar Thunder Rosa had plenty to say after the 39-year-old posted a photo of himself alongside the Scapegoat. Speaking on the Busted Open Radio, the former AEW Women’s Champion called it the ultimate heel move.

Thunder Rosa brought up how all her friends were screenshotting the post and sending it to each other. They could not believe that the post was real. She thought it was a brilliant move for the rivalry going on between these two superstars.

For me, it was brilliant. In terms of this storyline, I think it was brilliant because we know the length of issues that these two people had in the past, everything that unravelled from last All In, and how it happened. It’s just been insanity.
Thunder Rosa on Busted Open Radio

Rosa emphasized the length of problems between CM Punk and Jack Perry, ranging from their backstage disagreements to the brawl at All In that led to the Best in the World being fired from AEW. McIntyre bringing all of it up after nearly a year after it happened was diabolical.
