Cena compared Gunn to McMahon
John Cena is considered to be one of the biggest global stars. Initially starting off as a bodybuilder, Cena was signed by WWE in 2001 and has never looked back ever since. In fact, he was the face of the company for nearly a decade. With a total of 16 World Championship reigns in WWE, Cena is the most successful Superstar ever, along with Ric Flair.
A Superstar whose name was often considered to be synonymous with WWE moved to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. Initially, he did receive immense praise for his performances but he failed to earn as much success as he did in his professional wrestling career. But 2021 turned out to be a massive year for him when he got a chance to be a part of two of the biggest Hollywood franchisees – Fast & Furious and The Suicide Squad.
2021 was also the year when John Cena returned to WWE and challenged the Universal Champion Roman Reigns for the Universal title at Summerslam. He toured along with the company for a whole month and delivered some of the best WWE moments of the year. It would be fair to say that he managed to get the best of both the worlds.
As he experienced both the world – Hollywood and WWE, closely last year, the Leader of Cenation made some really interesting observations. In fact, he went as far as claiming that he identified some similarities between The Suicide Squad Director, James Gunn, and WWE CEO and Chairman, Vince McMahon.
John Cena recently appeared for an interview with Collider where he mentioned the similarities between the two. “James is everything, and the reason he is such a great director is because he assumes all roles. He creates the story from the ground up, he supervises the story as a producer, he manages all personalities. I think his ability to have his hands in everything, he’s almost like the Vince McMahon of a movie,” mentioned Cena.
John Cena is currently headlining his own series
After appearing in The Suicide Squad, John Cena will now be headlining a TV series created by James Gunn. It is going to be his character’s spin-off show, from the movie. The first three episodes of the show released on January 13 this year and new episodes are scheduled to drop in weekly.
On the professional wrestling front, Cena has mentioned that he will not be a part of Wrestlemania 38. But he also clarified that he is far from done with his career inside the squared circle. Whenever he does return to WWE, we can expect the Leader of Cenation to go after the elusive 17th World Championship.
