After many speculations and rumours, Cody Rhodes finally made his return to the WWE ring after six years wrestling outside the company. While nobody knows the actual reason for his departure in detail. It has been speculated that there was a professional fallout between him and the Tony Khan.

The two time intercontinental champion was cynical for his return to WWE, considering his earlier stint with the company where he started as a 21 year old. But by the looks of it, the star has retained his AEW gimmick, theme and entrance which were all debuted on the stupendous shows of shows Wrestlemania 38.

When asked in an interview to Variety about his fallout with the CEO of AEW, Tony Khan, Cody Rhodes says, “I chose to remain silent about my departure from AEW and I’m going to keep my word on that” also adding, “There’s no shoot interview. There’s no nefarious tale that’s going to be told. There were all these different theories and none of them are correct. I mean, there were things about money and creative control. They were printed as fact and it’s been a very difficult two months to see that, when the reality is it was just time. It was a personal matter and we couldn’t move past it”.

On his current relationship with the other EVP’s of AEW, cody says that it was a “personal matter” and that they couldn’t “move past it”. “I have nothing but respect for Matt [Jackson], Nick [Jackson] and Kenny [Omega]. I’m rooting for Tony Khan. His name is going to be in the history books as someone who helped to bankroll and support this entire alternative and revolution that AEW became but for me, it was just time to move on”, he adds.

Cody Rhodes chose to jump ship from AEW to WWE

Chris Jericho in an interview to the Busted open radio gave his thought on Cody Rhodes’ departure from AEW. On being asked what he felt, Jericho revealed that he was disappointed but he himself has done it several times. “You know this, we’ve discussed the reinvention of Jericho many times. I mean, I left WWE in 2017 for basically the same reason why Cody Rhodes left AEW, from what I understand. He just didn’t think he was getting the – I don’t know if it’s the spotlight or the respect or whatever the word being, but you could kind of see the writing on the walls”.

Jericho, all praises for Cody, called him a "great performer" and a "smart guy", saying that Cody is now bigger than he has ever been after leaving AEW and that WWE did a great job putting him over at Wrestlemania.

Cody’s second stint is another chance for the former TNT champion to complete his dream of becoming a world champion and remove the jinx from the family of under-rated wrestlers. It is pertinent to mention here that neither Cody’s father ‘The American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes or his brother Dustin Rhodes (Goldust) have won the major WWE Title.
