Since Cody Rhodes’s departure from AEW, it’s been speculated that the American Nightmare is on his way back to WWE. Due to his failed attempts during the previous month, Seth Rollins was unable to find a match at Wrestlemania. This prompted Chairman Vince McMahon to summon the Visionary to his office and offer him a Wrestlemania bout against an unknown opponent. This opponent had been rumoured to be Cody Rhodes, a second-generation superstar, and that has proven to be the truth.

Cody Rhodes visited SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio to discuss his resignation from AEW only days after making his WWE return at WrestleMania 38. “The American Nightmare” stated where he was when he realised his time with All Elite Wrestling had come to an end and decided to leave the promotion. He said:

“I knew that it was going to and needed to happen for me was the Loews Hotel over by Rosemont, which is by Allstate Arena. Allstate, where WWE regularly runs for Chicago,” Rhodes said. “But I looked at Brandi and I told her. And the last time I told her something like that was when I told her I was leaving WWE. I just – I kind of had done it all in my mind. I was just sitting there at that little bar to the right side in a little corner booth, and I knew.”

Cody Rhodes wrestled his first match on Raw after 6 years, with none other than the Miz. The two put on a great match on tonight’s Raw with the American Nightmare coming out as the winner. Post the match, the Visionary Seth Rollins came into the ring who had also been the special ring commentator for the match. Rollins stated that he had no idea who he would face at Mania, therefore Rhodes had every edge. Rhodes agreed to a rematch after Rollins proposed it. Rollins guffawed and strutted his way around Rhodes after that.
