“She brings eyeballs”: Charlotte Flair discusses the importance of Ronda Rousey
Flair, Deville and Rousey
Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey are gearing for one of the biggest matches on the Wrestlemania 38 card. The match is going to have the Smackdown Women’s Championship, which has been held by Flair since the last several months. This is her 13th World Championship reign, making her the most successful woman in the history of WWE.
Flair had initially held the Raw Women’s Championship. She had emerged victorious against Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H. to win the title at Summerslam. But The Queen had to exchange the title with Becky Lynch for the Smackdown Women’s title – enforced due to the WWE Draft 2021. During her current reign, she had defended the title against the likes of Naomi and Toni Storm.
But Charlotte Flair’s biggest challenger arrived in the form of Ronda Rousey at the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble. The Baddest Woman on the Planet had eliminated Flair to win the Women’s Royal Rumble match. She announced that she will be after Flair, in the main event of Showcase of Immortals.
While Ronda Rousey is easily the biggest threat to Charlotte Flair’s Smackdown Women’s Championship reign, but she is also a part-time performer. Rousey isn’t performing on the WWE roster throughout the year. But Flair revealed in a recent interview with Bleacher Report’s Graham GSM Matthews that she feels that such outside talent is important for WWE.
“Sometimes people get critical of outside talent coming in, but she wants to be a part of what we’ve done here, that should make you feel good, and she does bring more eyeballs to people who aren’t necessarily familiar with the product,” mentioned the Smackdown Women’s Champion.
Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey might not main event Wrestlemania
Traditionally, the winner of Royal Rumble goes on to main event Wrestlemania. With the Showcase of Immortals becoming a two-night event, it was fairly possible to have the Men’s and the Women’s winner get a main event on a night each. So when Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey was announced it was assumed that they will main event Wrestlemania Saturday.
But it now seems like the plans have changed. Reportedly, WWE wants The KO Show – featuring Kevin Owens and Stone Cold Steve Austin to close the night on Wrestlemania Saturday. This could mean that the Smackdown Women’s Championship is slightly pushed down the card.
