Born on March 1st, 1989, in Boronia, Victoria, Australia, Emma’s real name is Tenille Averil Dashwood. She began her career in the Australian independent scene when she was just 13 years old. She eventually made her way to the United States in 2011, where she joined WWE. Emma quickly made a name for herself in the Triple H-run WWE NXT. She was part of the inaugural NXT women’s championship tournament in 2013. Emma performed exceptionally well before losing to Paige in the final. She was eventually called up to the main roster in 2014. However, despite receiving several opportunities in NXT and on the main roster, she never held any titles in WWE before getting released from the company in 2017.

Emma had a gimmick revamp in 2016 following a back injury. Weekly vignettes started playing, teasing the return of Emma under the new name “Emmalina.” These teases ran for months from late 2016 to early 2017 until February, when Emmalina came out just to announce that she would return to her older gimmick of being Evil Emma. Reportedly, Vince McMahon expected a character like Sable and The Kat from Emmalina, but it never transpired.

In an interview with TheWrap, Emma finally revealed what happened with that gimmick. When asked about the long-teased and short-lived disaster, Emma said, “There really isn’t too much to say. Basically, they had an idea, I guess, for a character at one point, but eventually, along the way, they realized it just wasn’t for me. It wasn’t the best form of me — that’s Evil Emma. I wanna get out there and wrestle. I’m definitely not the ‘Diva’ sort, I’m the wrestler.”
