WrestleMania XL was the biggest WrestleMania in the history of the wrestling industry in every aspect. Many individuals worked tirelessly behind the scenes to accomplish this feat. To display what went into the preparations of The Show of Shows, they released a documentary called “WrestleMania XL: Behind The Curtain.”
However, according to Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio, the documentary fell flat on expectations. He stated that it felt like there was no new information for viewers to see, and everything seemed nice and well. In his opinion, the documentary only showcased the good moments and their triumphs, not the struggles behind them.
The one-hour documentary captured the saga between The Rock, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes. It showed the journey of The Great One joining the board of the TKO group and discussing how the match between him and The Tribal Chief was confirmed for WrestleMania XL. However, the entire dynamic shifted due to the influence of the “Cody Crybabies,” forcing them to revert to their original plans.
There was no new information. It was very much like a very carefully put together WWE documentary in a sense that everybody’s happy, everybody’s smart, nobody made ever made any mistakes, we all knew what was going to happen, but we didn’t know for sure and when it happened we pivoted and all was good.Dave Meltzer on WrestleMania XL documentry via WOR
Additionally, Triple H revealed that the original plan for CM Punk was to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40. However, it was scrapped after Punk got injured at the Royal Rumble. At the end of the documentary, Rhodes and The Game stated that it was now their job to steer the ship in the right direction.
The wrestling world expressed their honest opinions on the recently released WrestleMania XL documentary
Dave Meltzer’s rather controversial comments garnered a lot of attention from the WWE Universe. While some fans mocked him for criticizing everything, others agreed with his opinion. They also shared their thoughts regarding the documentary on social media.
One fan mocked Meltzer and said he never praised anything related to WWE while praising the documentary. Another fan sided with the veteran journalist on this topic and agreed that it was not detailed enough.
Some fans felt that although the presentation was diplomatic, it didn’t matter because of the way things turned out. Others suggested that this documentary should be renamed “WrestleMania XL: Behind The Main Event” because it focused solely on the two main events. Here are some of the top reactions from fans:
Overall, fans had mixed reactions to Meltzer’s opinion about the documentary. Nevertheless, to each their own.
