WWE Hall of Famer The Great Khali turned 49 today. The wrestling giant was born on 27th August 1972, as Dalip Singh Rana. But the world knows him as “The Great Khali” a ring name, which he adopted when he became the first Indian to sign with WWE. Khali is often credited with earning WWE mainstream popularity in India. Here we take a brief look at the life of WWE Hall of Famer The Great Khali.
Khali was born in the Dhiraina village of Himachal Pradesh and was one of the seven siblings! He suffers from acromegaly, which causes gigantism and chin protrusion, among other effects. Coming for a poor family, he had to do several odd jobs to make ends meet. While serving as a security guard, he caught the eye of a police officer, who got him inducted in to the Punjab police.
While serving in Jalandhar, Punjab, The Great Khali used to train in the local gyms and one thing led to another – leading to Khali’s selection for specialised training in the United States. The first promotion, which Khali appeared for was the All Pro Wrestling, in 2000, and had adopted the ring name of Giant Singh. Then he went on to wrestle for several other promotions like WCW, NJPW and AJPW.
But the highlight of his career came in 2006, when he was signed by WWE. Initially, while on the developmental promotion, he wrestled under his real name. But when he debuted on the main roster, he was introduced as The Great Khali.
Even after his contract expired in 2014, Khali continues to make special appearances for WWE. His final in-ring appearance was in 2018, when he participated in The Greatest Royal Rumble match. Since 2015, Khali has been operating his own wrestling school in Punjab – Continental Wrestling Entertainment. He was inducted in to the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2021.

Despite being missing from the WWE TV for several years, The Great Khali was trending suddenly in 2021. The reason, initially, did not really impress the WWE Hall of Famer, but he soon embraced it too.
Khali was trending because of all his memes doing the rounds. After a user made a bizarre request during Khali’s live session, people started flooding the WWE Hall of Famer The Great Khali’s comment sections with bizarre requests. Initially, he turned his comments section off, but soon he started responding to them with sass. Nobody can hold The Great Khali down for long.
