How Alexa Bliss’ dark persona has taken her away from Championship success in WWE?

Alexa Bliss has tasted incredible success in her WWE career, winning multiple championships and accolades. However, turning into a darker persona in 2020 has halted her momentum and she has been lacking charisma since then.

How Alexa Bliss’ dark persona has taken her away from Championship success in WWE?

The Goddess and Dark persona of Alexa Bliss

Following her NXT success, Alexa Bliss was drafted to SmackDown Live as part of the 2016 WWE Draft. She went on to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship twice. Alexa was involved in several high-profile feuds with the likes of Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Mickie James. In 2017, Bliss was moved to Raw as part of the Superstar Shake-up and won the Raw Women’s Championship three times, becoming the first woman to win both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. The Goddess also won the inaugural Women’s Elimination Chamber match in 2018.

During an episode of SmackDown in 2020, Bray Wyatt appeared and took Alexa Bliss under his wing. Introducing her to his sinister alter ego, The Fiend. Bliss then began to display a more dark and mysterious character, adopting some of The Fiend’s mannerisms and appearing in segments alongside him. Following Bray’s WWE release in 2021, Bliss continued to portray her dark character, but without the presence of Wyatt.

However, the Harley Quinn-like character of Alexa was not well received by fans from the beginning. She tried everything to make the gimmick work, however, the character she was given was clearly not suitable for her. Fans wanted her back to being an annoying heel who used to call herself “The Goddess” and constantly found a way to win titles.

There is no denying that Little Miss Bliss is still one of the most prominent female wrestlers in the world. However, the charisma and charm she had at the peak of her career in 2016–2018 are not the same anymore. Bliss is also rarely finding herself to be in the title picture lately.

At Elimination Chamber 2022, Alexa Bliss made her in-ring return after several months by competing in the women’s chamber match. Following her chamber appearance, Bliss went off TV again for a few months. After a brief hiatus, Bliss surprisingly returned on an episode of Raw in May to take on Sonya Deville.

The new character of Alexa was a mixture of her dark persona and The Goddess figure as well. Fans found her new character lovable and also praise-worthy. Bliss went on to team with Bianca Belair and Asuka on episodes of Raw. However, Bliss eventually turned heel at the start of 2023 to feud with Bianca for the Raw Women’s title.

At the Royal Rumble, Alexa was unsuccessful in capturing the gold from Belair. Following the match, Uncle Howdy’s video started playing, and it seems she is back in the storyline with Wyatt. Bliss is rumored to be a part of the “Wyatt 6” as well. It remains to be seen what WWE has in store for Alexa and how things play out between her and Wyatt in the future.
