All the hubbub coming out of last weekend’s men’s WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series has been about that black-hooded figure who ambushed CM Punk inside the cage. The fans hoped to find out who it was on this week’s Raw.
General Manager Adam Pearce even entrusted referee Eddie Orengo with the onus of taking a stroll backstage and returning to him with a lead, but to no avail. Amid ongoing fan speculation on social media, WWE itself has jumped on the bandwagon.
The company published an article on its official website listing 8 different suspects who could be the mystery assailants. The list has placed Randy Orton as the prime suspect. He’s been off WWE programming since losing a tag team match in early November on SmackDown.
The explanation behind naming Orton takes one back to the night Punk returned to WWE in 2023. ‘The Best in the World’ literally overshadowed the long-awaited comeback of ‘The Viper’ from a career-threatening back injury by emerging at the conclusion of the men’s WarGames match back then.
Could it be a case of Orton not forgetting about it and harboring an ill feeling toward the reigning World Heavyweight Champion? It could be.

2) Austin Theory
3) Seth Rollins

The second suspect on the list is Austin Theory. He’s someone whose name has been popping off the most on social media. Even some media reports have confirmed that it was actually the former US Champion underneath that mask this past Saturday at Survivor Series. In fact, Dave Meltzer has claimed in his reporting that Theory was originally set to be a part of The Vision for the WarGames match.
Why Austin Theory was removed from the planned men's WarGames teams at WWE Survivor Series:

Originally he was supposed to be in WarGames before the Jacob Fatu injury forced them to move up the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre feud one month, and thus opened both of them up for… pic.twitter.com/xqXOMZFtIr
However, Jacob Fatu‘s injury changed a lot of things. It forced WWE to prepone the world title match between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre from Survivor Series to Saturday Night’s Main Event. Rhodes was decided as Fatu’s replacement in the WarGames lineup, and hence McIntyre got inserted in the mix too. It could only be a matter of time before Theory gets unveiled as the culprit in the weeks to come.
Seth Rollins comes next in this list solely due to the fact that he once tricked everyone into believing that he was hurt a few months ago. So he knows a thing or two about pulling off ruses. He’s just a hapless veteran with a sling tied to his left arm at the moment. ‘The Visionary’ is in no physical state to scale up a structure like WarGames, as the fans witnessed that hooded man do.
But the fact that there’s no one on the roster at the moment who dislikes CM Punk more than he does makes Rollins a likely suspect. The most surprising name in this list is John Cena‘s. He’s literally down to his last WWE match appearance a week from this Saturday. How could he even benefit from assaulting Punk inside WarGames when Cena is almost done as an active in-ring performer?
His listing as a suspect is being described as “the longest of long shots.” It would be a swerve of epic proportions if the 17-time world champion ends up being the assailant. LA Knight has also found a mention in the list of names under suspicion for being the hooded entity. But unlike John Cena, Knight has a multitude of reasons for blasting ‘The Second City Saint’.
‘The Megastar’ has come face-to-face with Punk on a number of occasions this year. During one of their confrontations on Raw, the former AEW star also mocked the fact that Knight has never been a world champion in WWE. ‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ hoped for Knight to be his opponent in that match for the vacant world title at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but Jey Uso ended up being the one.
It’s quite possible that ‘The Megastar’ has had enough of getting screwed up over and over again in his journey to hold the top prize in WWE. So he could’ve decided to take matters into his own hands and call the shots. The only woman on this list, and someone who actually does make a ton of sense, is Becky Lynch. She’s already deranged by her loss of the Intercontinental Championship to Maxxine Dupri.
‘The Man’ has gone berserk, and she has taken to social media platforms to let her voice be heard. With her being in a torrid headspace at the moment and Punk’s history with her husband, Seth Rollins, Lynch could’ve clobbered the 47-year-old inside WarGames. The last two suspects include Sami Zayn and AJ Styles, and they’re listed as the two unlikeliest of people to be unmasked as the culprits.
What did Logan Paul say about WWE’s mystery attacker plot?
Logan Paul is all but confirmed to be a member of The Vision as he turned up on this week’s Raw still with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. ‘The Maverick’ even received a formal introduction from Paul Heyman, who hailed the Westlake-born athlete as the perfect fit with his vision for the future of WWE.

The former US Champion talked about the masked figure that attacked CM Punk at Survivor Series on the latest episode of his IMPAULSIVE podcast. Paul said that the anonymous hooded man did not even once take his mask off during the time he was backstage.

The 30-year-old said that the entire situation isn’t a work. At this point, there’s enough hype for the reveal of the identity of the masked figure. However, WWE needs to be extremely wary about not milking it way too long and unraveling the mystery at the right point.
