The first WWE Backlash pay-per-view was held in 1999. The event served as a follow-up to the biggest event of the year, WrestleMania. WWE initially came up with the name “Backlash” to define the purpose of revenge. Following the success of the first ever Backlash, the show became a regular PPV for WWE for years to come. The event has also been presented every year after WrestleMania, with some exceptions. WWE announced Bad Bunny as the host for Backlash this year.

WWE recently announced the date when Backlash is going to take place, along with the venue of the show. The PLE following WrestleMania 39 will be held on May 6, 2023. Backlash is set to be live from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The “Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot” arena will be hosting the PLE. With the announcement, WWE is set to present a PPV from Puerto Rico for the first time since 2005.

Along with the date and venue announcement of the show, WWE also announced the Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny to be the host for the event. The Grammy award winner will be appearing on WWE programming for the first time since Royal Rumble, 2022. Bad Bunny hosting the event in Puerto Rico also makes sense, considering the fact that he belongs to the country.

WWE previously announced The Miz to be the host of WrestleMania 39. Following that, another WWE PLE will be getting a host. Nonetheless, naming Bad Bunny as the host for an event held in Puerto Rico could also prove to be a great business decision. It would be interesting to see if more PLEs will get a host this year.
