“I had to really go for it “ – When Bayley revealed the motivation behind her personality transition

Bayley responded

Back in the day, WWE Diva Bayley was originally considered a babyface on par with John Cena. The 33-year-old American wrestler was immensely popular in NXT, and it was predicted that she’d become the biggest face in the WWE Women’s division for years to come.

Following a successful tenure with the SmackDown Women’s Championship and a fresh spell as WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champion alongside her BFF Sasha Banks, Bayley is now one of the biggest heels on the roster.

Bayley’s career has benefited greatly from the heel flip, but how did the hairstyle, heel change, and swing to an annoying ‘Karen-esque’ character come about? In a 2020 interview with Digital Spy, Bayley broke kayfabe to explain the truth about her character transformation.

She said, “I’ve always had in the back of my head an idea of this character that I wanted to try if I were to change. So it was kind of me just throwing things out there and being like, ‘hey, I got this, I got this, and I want to do this,’ and just trusting me to do it. Had to really trust me and I had to really go for it, and that’s why I had to change everything and in order for them to believe it.”

The WWE universe can’t get enough of Bayley

Bayley
Bayley has been out for almost an year due to injury.

People have enjoyed Bayley’s heel run thus far, as much as they miss the babyface ‘hugger’ role from Bayley with the goofy waving inflatable tube dudes and the fans shouting ‘heyyyyy Baayyleeeeyyyy.” The former WWE Women’s Champion recently celebrated her 33rd birthday in June. However, following an ACL injury last summer, the fighter is still out of commission with the firm.

At Money in the Bank 2021, Bayley was set to face Bianca Belair in an “I Quit” match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. There she suffered a ruptured ACL while practicing for the fight. We can only hope and pray that she returns to the ring at the earliest.
