WWE is often known for using similar storylines and gimmicks over the years. The same has been pointed out by comedian Jeff Dye about the storyline between Shotzi and Bayley. Shotzi recently shaved her hair during an episode of SmackDown and went through a character change over the following weeks. Dye revealed that WWE writers once pitched a similar idea to her ex-girlfriend, Becky Lynch.
Becky Lynch is arguably one of the biggest names in WWE at the moment. However, she had to go through a tough time rising up the ranks in the company. Her boyfriend at the time, Jeff Dye, talked about the period on “Wrestling with Freddie” with Freddie Prinze Jr. Dye revealed that a WWE writer had approached Lynch with a story where she would slowly go insane over a period of time and shave her head off.
The comedian said, “When I was with Becky, they didn’t know what to do with her, and there was a writer that pitched like, ‘What if we have you just shave your head and act like you’re having a breakdown?” He added that Lynch immediately rejected the idea, saying that she would not cut her hair. Despite the rejection, the writers were persistent about the storyline. However, Becky Lynch refused to change her stand, which resulted in the scrapping of plans.
However, Dye further mentioned that it appears as though the writers might have used the same idea on Shotzi. He believes that Shotzi, who was already going to shave her head, planned on using it for a storyline as well. Shotzi revealed that she cut her hair to pay homage to her sister, who is battling cancer, following the episode of SmackDown.
Becky Lynch expected to face Trish Stratus at SummerSlam
After almost three months of the feud, Becky Lynch has finally gained her rematch with the WWE Hall of Famer. In April, Trish Stratus turned heel on Becky Lynch, attacking her after costing her tag team titles. Since then, the two have been feuding, with their first clash coming at the Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. The event also marked the debut of Zoey Stark on the main roster, as she aligned with Stratus.
Trish Stratus had been dodging the chance to face Lynch again. She often made Lynch go through other competitors before she could face Stratus in the ring for another match. On a recent episode of Raw, it was decided that Lynch can challenge for a rematch if she defeats Zoey Stark in a singles match.
The former Champion won the match against Zoey Stark and can now have her rematch against Stratus. The exact date for the match was not announced last week. However, it is expected that the two will end the feud next weekend at SummerSlam. Therefore, fans are looking forward to the go-home episode of Raw for the official announcement of the match.
