CM Punk returned to his home (WWE) last night at Survivor Series after nine years. The fans are delighted that their beloved superstar is now where he belongs. Dave Meltzer feels this agreement between Punk and Triple H could heavily affect Tony Khan and AEW, just like it did at the time Cody Rhodes returned to WWE.
Meltzer explained via WOR, that Punk’s return to WWE will ultimately hurt the rival company. He feels like when a company’s top star joins another company, his status only gets bigger and bigger. He gave an example of Cody Rhodes and said now he’s one of the WWE’s biggest guys after leaving AEW.
I think this hurts AEW considerably. Just from a perception standpoint. The reason I say that is because of what happened with Cody Rhodes. But it's still… when Cody left, he was not the number one guy either and he went to WWE and probably really is the number two guy there right now behind Roman Reigns. Now that Punk is in WWE, fans are waiting for his in-ring return and first rival. It will be interesting to what will WWE’s rival company’s next big step be. Rating wars will again be the center point of both companies’ rivalry as AEW has recently signed some big stars like Will Ospreay too, and veterans like Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, and MJF can really pack a punch.
Seth Rollins speaks on his actions towards CM Punk at a live event
When CM Punk returned to the Survivor Series in front of his hometown, the crowd went wild, and the whole arena was cheering for him. But the current World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, wasn’t happy and even started abusing him in front of fans.
Recently, the Architect addressed the situation that happened at Survivor Series and blamed Punk for doing nothing but destroying the company and then being gone for 8 years. He credited all the superstars backstage and thanked the fans for making this product what it is today.
I am not going to waste any more breath on somebody that's been gone for 8 years, has done nothing but try and tear this place down. I'm going to use my breath to take my time to talk about the people in the back who's made WWE the hottest ticket in town, that's every single one of you who are here tonight.Seth Rollins on CM Punk at WWE Live Event
Many fans believe that this is not a real and heated rivalry but just brilliant work. They are excited to see these two top stars have a battle on the mic and in the ring. Punk will feature on the next episode of Raw. The WWE Universe is eagerly waiting to hear what the Voice of the Voiceless has to say.
