With how much he has accomplished in WWE, it often undermines what Roman Reigns used to do as a tyro. It’s a well-documented fact that the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion played years of college football for Georgia Tech FT before his erratic professional run which ended with the Edmonton Eskimos. Moreover, he got to share the same jersey as NFL great Calvin Johnson.
Both Johnson and Reigns played for the same cause during their time with the Georgia Tech football team. And recently, the all-time great wide receiver, Johnson, looked back on his time with WWE’s prohibitive poster boy, Roman Reigns. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Calvin Johnson regarded Roman Reigns as a bada** guy. The Megatron also hailed Roman for the skill he possessed as a defensive tackle.
Johnson also hinted at Reigns being a taciturn but was well received by peers whenever he spoke, per the Pro Football Hall of Famer. Additionally, when being asked about whether he thought Roman had a bright career in the NFL, Calvin did not disagree. He simply iterated that The Tribal Chief’s battle with leukemia plagued those aspirations.
He was just always like a bada**. He didn't say much, but when he did say something, you listened. Obviously he made it to the NFL, he had his bout with cancer that derailed that but I mean you know it was a blessing in disguise.Calvin Johnson on Roman Reigns via TMZ Sports
And further, the NFL legend termed it a “blessing in disguise” for the Head of the Table. It’s just because he thought that if Reigns continued to be a defensive bulwark in American football, the world would’ve been robbed of such a WWE Superstar. Overall, Johnson had a great time being teammates with Joe, aka Roman Reigns.
What will be Roman Reigns’ next match in WWE?
At the moment, Roman Reigns is the top dog in WWE. Despite being on an extremely paltry working schedule, almost everything going on television ultimately leads to The Tribal Chief. As such, several names are gunning for revenge on Roman and his Bloodline.
The ongoing tussle on the blue brand includes a trifecta of veterans going at each other just to vie for the gold Reigns is holding. Last week on SmackDown, Nick Aldis, the GM, announced that Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and LA Knight would get their chance to earn a title shot.
For that, they’ll have to contest a triple threat match in one week from Friday on SmackDown: New Year’s Revolution. The winner of that match gets to have Roman Reigns for the title at next month’s Royal Rumble premium live event.
