The NXT Champion, Carmelo Hayes, successfully defended his title at NXT Battleground against Bron Breakker. Following Hayes’ win at Sunday’s event, he was confronted by Noam Dar on the recent episode of NXT (30 May). Melo, being a defending champion, accepted the challenge and went on to battle The Scottish Supernova in the main event of the show.

The match between them gave the audience a convincing vibe for both stars’ sake. Even though the match ended with the A-Champion picking up the win after delivering his finisher onto Noam. After his title defense, he stood near the ramp, celebrating his win, when WWE’s free agent Baron Corbin came in from the back to attack the champion.

Corbin was outraged and then took him to the ring to beat him up and deliver his finisher, End of Days. He left, laying the NXT champion on the mat while raising his title. Corbin stayed a free agent during the WWE Draft and took advantage of it by ambushing Hayes on NXT. The former Money in the Bank winner is seemingly speculated to be the next challenger for the NXT title.

After the shocking attack, Hayes is glad that the free agent who came in was The Lone Wolf, Baron Corbin, and not The Beast, Brock Lesnar. Carmelo took to Twitter while saying so, and the WWE Universe has reacted hilariously to this, mostly in support of Hayes. While also showing concern if it was Lesnar rather than Baron as he is also a free agent after the 2023 Draft.

As it was considered an impossible task for NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes to retain against Bron Breakker. The 28-year-old managed to do so with the momentum of his title reign. When he successfully defeated his rival and former NXT Champion Bron Breakker at NXT Battleground.

Being a hometown boy, the audience supported the champion, which to Breakker seemed irrelevant as he bruised Carmelo to begin the match. Bron, being a heavy guy, managed to show his athleticism by performing a top rope hurricanrana with more incredible moves. The midair spear by Breakker was the highlight of the match!

Hayes continued to be resilient by continuously kicking out of Bron’s every pinfall, and after a long matchup, he took the win. Melo neutralized the momentum gained by Bron with his own high-flying moves. He finished the match by hitting ‘Nothing But Net’ on Breakker and stood tall as the champion.
