Gunther has been on an invincible run since capturing the Intercontinental Championship last year in June. However, this Monday on RAW, he suffered a psychological loss at the hands of Chad Gable. After a backstage interaction, Gunther argued that he’d need less than 5 minutes to fend off Gable. In response, the former Olympian said that he can last more than 5 hours on any given day.

As a result, a 5-minute countdown was set for their match. Oozing confidence, The Ring General tried to soften up his opponent earlier on. However, Master Gable surprised Gunther at times with some magnificent counters. And just like that, Gable survived the time limit, leaving the Austrian absolutely irate. The match was restarted on Gunther’s demand, and this time he pinned Gable.

After the show, Chad Gable spoke about his painful outing. Pointing at his banged-up chest, courtesy of some knife-edged chops from Gunther, the Alpha Academy member sought retribution. Gable asked the Intercontinental Champ to take care of his business at SummerSlam. That said, the former Olympian expressed his intention to challenge Gunther once again.

Chad Gable vowed to turn Gunther’s chest into mincemeat. During their match on RAW, it looked as if The Ring General met his match—not sizably, but technically. There aren’t many wrestlers at present who can boast similar technical proficiency as the leader of the Imperium. The Alpha Academy member put Gunther’s undefeated streak on the main roster in jeopardy many a times this week.

The Vienna-based wrestler is marching towards becoming the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. Recently, Gunther surpassed Randy Savage’s 413-day iconic reign with the title from 1986-87. He’s just 38 days away from breaking the all-time record of 454 days as the IC Champion, a feat currently held by the Honky Tonk Man. That said, Gunther is lined up for a major title defense this Saturday at SummerSlam.

For all the good measures, Drew McIntyre is going to test The Ring General to his core. Undoubtedly, it’s the biggest thorn in Gunther’s side. He’s been sailing for over 400 days with the gold. Now, it’s time to see whether the Austrian keeps himself in contention to break Honky Tonk Man’s record or not. If the Scottish Warrior beats Gunther this Saturday, the latter’s dreams will be shattered.

However, knowing that WWE loves to update its history books, they’d be pushing for Gunther to continue his indomitable streak. Considering that The Ring General would survive McIntyre’s wrath in Detroit, the champ already has Chad Gable waiting for him. Whatever the case, the upcoming days ain’t going to be easy for Gunther holding the Intercontinental title.
