The most recent time he defended the World Championship at a PPV event was at the AEW Full Gear on November 19, 2022. Jericho defended it against Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, and Sammy Guevara. The Former WWE Superstar recently extended his contract until 2025 and now also serves as a creative consultant and coach in addition to being an in-ring performer.

Chris Jericho’s wrestling career spans over 30 years now, and the Former AEW World Champion has wrestled across numerous wrestling promotions. Jericho was a WCW superstar before signing up with WWE, where he served as the prominent face of the cruiserweight division.

Chris Jericho discussed his pay at the WCW on a recent episode of Talk is Jericho. Jericho stated that the ranges of his salaries were 135K to 200K and 250K to 350K. Jericho said that while he was fine with it, it was unfair that other guys like Stevie Ray and Scott Norton were earning 750 grand. He said that they reached an agreement specifying that a wrestler’s pay would also be based on the number of tickets they sold.

“I think I went from 135(K) to 165(K) to 200(K). Then next round was 250(K), 300(K), 350(K). That was what we agreed on……but in WCW, Scott Norton and Stevie Ray and those types of guys were making 750 grand. 350 for me, wasn’t really all that much money in comparison to the other guys. They came back with that deal, it was structured, ‘if they sell this many tickets, you’ll make this much.”

Due to his outstanding in-ring and on-camera abilities, Chris Jericho quickly became one of the most well-liked superstars on the roster after making his WWE debut in 1999. It’s extremely impressive how Jericho has been able to evolve his character over the course of his career. The former WWE superstar can effectively portray both a babyface and a villain. The Lionheart faced a lot of criticism in his early days in the WWE because he was a WCW guy.

During an edition of Talk is Jericho in November, Jericho said there was a significant amount of hostility when he joined the WWE in 1999. The WWE locker room, according to him, never liked WCW men joining the WWE since they were inferior at the time. No matter how much you do right, he claimed that if something went wrong due to them, the WCW people in the WWE would be in danger and placed on Vince McMahon’s radar.

“There was a lot of animosity for real, because I had the audacity to come to WWE. People didn’t like it. They didn’t want WCW guys coming to WWE, because they felt we were inferior…… And those guys had pull, so they’d bury you to Vince.”

Chris Jericho left WWE in 2018, with his last appearance coming at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in April of that year. The Lionheart departed WWE because his match at WrestleMania 33 in 2017 was positioned second on the match card, demonstrating that he wasn’t thought of as a respectable individual. Nevertheless, Jericho seems to be having a great run as an AEW wrestler now.
