Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest wrestlers ever to have set foot in the squared circle. Starting out as a tag team with Marty Jannetty, Michaels and Jannetty revolutionized the tag team division and made themselves the most prominent tag team in the company. Even though they were a popular tag team, they weren’t popular as singles wrestlers. Shawn Michaels established himself as a leading superstar after he put a dead end to The Rockers after a brutal assault on Jannetty.

Shawn Michaels was the prominent villain of the early to mid-1990s as the “Heartbreak Kid” and established himself as one of the WWE’s top stars. He became a three-time World Champion during his first stint in the company, and being the successful “golden boy” of the company, Shawn had some ego issues too.

Pro wrestlers lead a hectic schedule and endure a lot physically and mentally. Often times, especially in the 80s and 90s, some wrestlers indulged into alcohol or substance abuse to ease the pain, and also to keep on life on the road. This is what happened to Shawn Michaels.

Michaels, being the company’s “Golden Boy,” would often party hard, and during a recent appearance on “Games with Names,” he spoke about balancing partying and WWE during the 90s. Shawn Michaels described his lifestyle in the 90s as that of the Rockstars, who are also constantly on the road and are known to abuse drugs and alcohol.

Additionally, he admitted that sleeping on the road was challenging for him and that he frequently went out to party after the shows. Shawn Michaels said that when he isn’t working, he often goes to sleep by 9 p.m.

“Well, look, we made time for that, The one thing is there was always after the show……It was, you know you mentioned it earlier, it was kind of a rockstar lifestyle. It could be a lot of fun, and you could be, obviously, the life of the party, a pretty popular guy. It was not a bad gig, shall we say.”
