It may finally come to fruition in Canada. As known for years, fans have often been divided between the alleged rift of CM Punk and KENTA. It all started when the Chicago native started using the GTS as his finishing maneuver. However, Kenta Kobayashi was the one who brought that move into the limelight at first. As a result, the Japanese wrestler was never hesitant in expressing his public disdain for Punk.

Back in August 2020, the former Hideo Itami even made a series of tweets defaming CM Punk and calling him out for a match. That wasn’t enough to prompt Phil back then, however, the case is changed for now. The Forbidden Door pay-per-view is nearly 2 weeks away. One of the most clamoured for bouts among the wrestling community was Punk vs. KENTA. A couple of days ago on Twitter, a fan shared that the story between two men writes for itself.

The current NJPW wrestler was quick to respond. He said that until the money is right, he’s not willing to fight the soon-to-be returning AEW Superstar. That caused a wave of disappointment as everyone felt that they aren’t going to ever see this dream matchup. However, that might not be the case. According to Fightful Select, KENTA was scheduled to work the crossover show, as of this week.

Also, while nothing is locked, the involved parties are operating as if it’s a done deal. The planned opponent mentioned for the current Strong Openweight Champion was CM Punk. Whatever ends up happening should be disclosed soon on television as the show isn’t that far away. Next week on the premiere of AEW Collision, Punk will make his impending return to the company after a year of inactivity.

Last week on AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan officially announced CM Punk’s return. While the company was hoping for an immediate spike in their business figures, that exactly hasn’t happened. For next week in Chicago, the United Center featuring Punk’s homecoming is currently at just over 9,000 tickets sold. For context, that massive building sold-out for Punk’s original AEW debut in 2021 in just 30 minutes

Also, apart from the premiere episode of Collision, the ticket sales are mediocre. In some markets like Saskatchewan and other Canadian cities, it’s getting extremely hard for the Jacksonville-based promotion to move tickets, even with CM Punk on the promotional material. This even led to WWE legend Jonathan Coachman take a dig at the 2-time AEW Champion.

As for his return match, a trios match has been announced. That being said, Punk joins The FTR to take on Jay White, Juice Robinson and Samoa Joe. As previously noted, Punk developed a liking for Jay White’s work and pitched him as the initial opponent he’d be willing to work with. A lot of fans would be hoping for the best version of CM Punk in this renewed run, free of any controversial elements.
