CM Punk made his first televised in-ring return at Royal Rumble in almost a decade. However, he got injured during the match. The Best in The World was sidelined due to a triceps injury. While his return to the ring awaits post-surgery recovery, there’s speculation that WWE might capitalize on his charisma and popularity by offering him a new role in the interim.
Ace Steel, a close friend of CM Punk, recently shared his insights on the Wrestling Perspective podcast regarding Punk’s potential role during his hiatus due to injury. Steel suggested that WWE is eyeing his friend for a commentary position. However, he expressed reservations about this route due to the injury angle used to write Punk off TV, particularly the storyline involving Drew McIntyre injuring his arm.
Steel emphasized that WWE should carefully consider Punk’s involvement on-screen. This is especially crucial if it risks overshadowing other storylines or creating conflict, such as placing him on the same show as McIntyre. He also touched on the skepticism among fans regarding the legitimacy of The Second City Saint’s injury. Hence, acknowledging the nature of wrestling storylines and the blurred lines between fiction and reality.
I don’t know that they go that route since they did an injury angle to pull him out since they did the storyline on him; [Drew] stomps on his arm. There’s the physicality that puts him out. I personally don’t want to see him in an onscreen role unless it’s in the meantime he’s doing NXT or something.Ace Steel
Reports suggest that both WWE and CM Punk have shown interest in collaborating within NXT. This collaboration could involve him working at the Performance Center, either as a commentator or in a backstage producer capacity. Having the former WWE Champion in NXT could prove highly advantageous for everyone involved. Without a doubt, Punk’s wealth of experience could greatly benefit upcoming superstars.
Drew McIntyre took another shot at CM Punk with a brand new t-shirt
On the latest episode of RAW, Drew McIntyre took another jab at CM Punk, unveiling a brand new t-shirt as part of his ongoing trolling antics. This move comes after McIntyre’s Future Shock DDT resulted in Punk’s injury, effectively putting a halt to his aspirations of headlining WrestleMania. The t-shirt shows Drew laughing at The Second City Saint’s dreams of headlining the show being tarnished.
The Scottish Warrior has been relentless in his mockery of Punk, going as far as to rename the move responsible for the injury and sharing memes ridiculing the 45-year-old on social media platforms. Their feud initially sparked during a gripping promo segment on Raw several weeks ago, igniting intense anticipation among fans.
As Punk recuperates from his injury, it seems inevitable that his path will intersect with McIntyre’s once again. With tensions running high and both superstars eager to settle the score, the WWE Universe awaits the moment when The Straight Edge star returns to the ring to confront his tormentor in what promises to be a clash for the ages.
