When CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames, the whole wrestling world stood still. It was even impossible to think that Punk, who held personal grudges with Vince McMahon and Triple H, would ever return to the company. As such, The Best in the World revealed how it all went down in an interview.
CM Punk spoke with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour and talked about his phone call with Triple H just days before his return. He stated that Hunter talked to him personally and let bygones be bygones. The Second City Saint admitted having a good laugh at the things that were personal to them years ago. Subsequently, Punk finally agreed to return to WWE a day before the PLE in his hometown of Chicago.
The 45-year-old pointed out that fans misinterpreted a lot of things that happened between him and Triple H. Upon asking if the phone call with Hunter was important, Punk said he was glad that they sorted things out like real men. In his first WWE match after his return at the Royal Rumble, he tore his triceps while taking a Future Shock DDT from Drew McIntyre.
When I spoke to him, that's when the ball really got rolling, you know? I asked him if he wanted to talk on the phone and he was like no, I would like to face time you. We just talked about whole lot of stuff, you know.. stuff that was probably serious to us, we just kinda laughed and buried the hatchet.CM Punk on Triple H via MMA Hour
As a result, it was confirmed that Punk wouldn’t be able to wrestle at WrestleMania. He returned last week on Raw and had a verbal battle with McIntyre and Seth Rollins. Although fans will miss The Second City Saint in the ring, they won’t be disappointed hearing him call the action live on commentary.
CM Punk reflects on his last meeting with Vince McMahon
Since WWE and Vince McMahon infamously fired CM Punk on his wedding day, there has always been bad blood between both sides. He ranted about the former chairman in various interviews, and for a long time, it looked like they would never be in the same room again. However, after his return, Punk bumped into Vince at the Titan Towers, and the former revealed what the conversation was like.
In the same interview with Ariel Helwani, Punk revealed that his last encounter with Vince was quite surprising. The 78-year-old gave him a big hug and expressed his desire to speak with him at a later time. Despite that, the two-time WWE Champion did have some serious words to say about the heinous allegations made against Vince.
It's sad, he ruined his life ruining other people's lives. "I'm shocked at how dumb he was, writing stuff down, and leaving a paper trail. It's horrific. I think all the energy should be done to make reparations and amends—there are victims here.CM Punk on Vince McMahon via MMA Hour
The Second City Saint admitted to having second thoughts about the accusations. However, he stated that he could imagine the former owner being capable of doing those things. What he found more disgusting was that he kept a written record of his horrific actions. Punk finally concluded his statement by saying that the time and energy should be invested in protecting the victims.
