When it was announced, everyone knew that Cody Rhodes and CM Punk‘s faceoff would be intense. Despite knowing that for a fact, what they made each other go through on Raw was of epic proportions. It all started with Punk unearthing one of Cody’s dad’s requests. Dusty Rhodes asked The Best in the World to look after his kid when Cody was initially sent to OVW.

Punk alluded to Cody as sort of a nepotism hire but also gave credit to him for making a name for himself. The Chicago-based wrestler then talked about his father just being blue collar, and that he didn’t have a famous dad in wrestling like Cody. For that, Punk called himself more of an American Dream than Rhodes. It was then time for The Prodigal Son to get Punk back for that comment, and he did. Cody brought up Punk’s infamous pipe-bomb promo.

The former AEW EVP said that when Punk left WWE, he didn’t pass the torch to anyone; rather, he dropped it. And Rhodes affirmed that he picked it up and went on to emulate everything said in that on-screen rant about WWE. In that sense, Rhodes said it makes him more CM Punk than The Second City Saint himself. Punk also gave an acerbic shout-out to Rhodes for making the cover of WWE 2K24.

However, Punk warned Cody that he would take it all away from The American Nightmare just when he’s about to finish his story. Rhodes iterated that he doesn’t have any other direction than to move forward. Both superstars shoved each other off before leaving the ring.

CM Punk and Cody Rhodes are the odds-on favorites for Royal Rumble

As of the latest betting odds, CM Punk is still the favorite to win this weekend’s Royal Rumble match. Closing in the gap at second spot is the man he traded barbs with on Raw, Cody Rhodes. It may go down to the wire and could possibly be between these men to close out the stretch.

As the fans know, Seth Rollins opened the show last night, and despite being hurt, he said he would defend his title at WrestleMania. Not to forget that CM Punk has been reportedly confirmed as The Visionary’s opponent for The Grandest Stage if he does compete, which he will.

In a matter of days, the fans will know who’s going to secure that invaluable berth for a crack at the world title in Philadelphia. The stage is set and Tropicana Field in Florida awaits a historic night in there.
