WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes has become one of the most prominent names in pro wrestling. Rhodes made his initial mark in the WWE between 2007 and 2016. He then left the company and later made a triumphant return at WrestleMania 38 in 2022. In a recent post by WWE on Instagram, The American Nightmare revealed what validates his success story in WWE.

A significant part of a WWE superstar’s persona is the theme song they use. Cody Rhodes is one of those few superstars whose theme songs have all been great. Right from “Out to Kill” to his latest theme song, “Kingdom,” fans have enjoyed every single one of them. What remained common in all his theme songs was the “Whoahhh!!”

I have done a lot of things to get people to hopefully rally behind me, So, when they, as a unit, get together and sing this one part of my song; that is the validation that what you have been doing is worth it.

The American Nightmare said that the reception he receives every time during his theme song stands as the embodiment of how far he has come. According to him, it is this moment that validates him and what he fights for.

Throughout history, fans have seen those superstars whose themes are simply iconic. Even a few of them, like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and many others, have themes that live up to that standard.

WWE originally had a different theme song for Cody Rhodes

While the days when WWE used to hire big labels to produce theme songs for their superstars are over, a few masterpieces still exist. One of them is Cody Rhodes’ Kingdom, which is quite enjoyed by the fans. However, there was a time when WWE thought of replacing that song. In one of his chats with Chris Van Vliet, The American Nightmare revealed how a different version of that track existed.

It would have deeply annoyed the fans, admitted Rhodes, had it been utilized after his return. However, the Royal Rumble 2023 winner was quite adamant about his “American Nightmare” brand. He considered the theme song an important part and persisted against the likes of Vince McMahon and many others. He wanted it all without any alterations.

The original version of my song was different. As an option, I said, 'I think the audience would be really mad.' Kingdom is, I'll follow you till the end; we can't discredit that. We're going to bring the Nightmare brand as it is; probably the most important piece is that song. I didn't know it, but I was fighting for it.

Fans were delighted when they heard Downstait’s Kingdom at WrestleMania 38. It gave Rhodes a powerful aura as he walked down the ramp to fight Rollins. The fact that the former Intercontinental Champion has traveled several promotions and still kept Kingdom as it is speaks a lot. It undoubtedly forms a crucial part of his brand and his image.
