Cody Rhodes achieved a milestone as he made his grand return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 in 2022. The American Nightmare became the first star ever to jump from AEW to WWE since the former’s inception in 2019. Vince McMahon played a crucial role in it, as he flew to Cody’s home and brought him back to the company. The Prodigal Son finally shed light on what exactly Vince said that convinced him to return to the Stamford-based company.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Cody Rhodes said that Vince McMahon laughed when they met after a long while. Cody stated, “I was almost overcompensating because both Vince and Bruce were so welcoming.” He added that it was not a convincing thing, but Bruce Prichard and McMahon’s benevolent nature led him to make the decision to join them. The 38-year-old said that now he has sanguine thoughts about his decision.
The American Nightmare stated that the meeting felt like 30 seconds. But when he was told about facing Seth Rollins at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes was reluctant to sign a deal at that time. It was because he was still a part of AEW and had not officially ended his contract.
The former AEW star stated that he felt self-affirming when they knew what he had done and mentioned those things. Cody stated that Liberty (his daughter) was like a year old at that time. Vince McMahon spoke to him and shared his experiences as a father.
Cody Rhodes also elucidated that it might be one of those unusual things for him, but he felt like a lucky person. He believes that he made the right choice by returning and was also overwhelmed by the kind of reception he received.
Cody Rhodes expresses his views on Seth Rollins
Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 where he was surprisingly revealed as the opponent of Seth Rollins. Since then, their rivalry continued and saw three epic matches in nearly two months. The result of all three matches came in favor of the American Nightmare.
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Cody Rhodes reflected on his feud with Seth Rollins and appreciated him a lot. Rhodes praised Rollins and said, “He’s super-valued to WWE, and he’s still undervalued, in my opinion.” Cody spoke about Rollins’ worth by highlighting how good he is as a wrestler and a kinder human being.
The trilogy of Seth and Cody’s matches began at WrestleMania in April 2022 and lasted till Hell in a Cell. May 2022 also saw them clashing at WrestleMania Backlash in a rematch from their previous encounter. But the third clash took place inside the barbaric steel structure.
