Worth noting, WWE was set to mark their return to India in mid-January earlier this year. However, due to some uncontrollable circumstances and media rights issue, they dropped the plan. The promotion even booked a 8000-seater indoor arena in Hyderabad for the cause. Many fans were disappointed about the scaling of that show being on such a small basis.

However, when WWE finally marks their comeback to India after 7 years this September, fans would be hoping for a blast. For the moment, additional details are awaited and will be updated once received. That being said, the buzzing in the wrestling community of this beautiful country is palpable.

Back in 2021, WWE ran a Republic Day special for their Indian fanbase. The event was dubbed as Superstar Spectacle which primarily focused on showcasing talents from India. The event was held behind closed doors in the Tropicana field amidst of the Thunderdome setup. The main-event saw Drew McIntyre and Indus Sher defeating Jinder Mahal & The Singh Brothers.

The show was taped around 4 days in advance and aired at 8pm on the Republic Day. It was a strategic masterclass from WWE as the timing quadrupled the television viewership for the event. During a media call, Nick Khan revealed that Superstar Spectacle was watched by nearly 20 million people across India.

It’s a staggering figure to even think of. Obviously, the availability of people at home during such timing on a national holiday helped WWE to garner such numbers. If compared to the present viewing figures of Raw & SmackDown, the 2021 event pulled nearly 10 times more people than what the weekly flagship shows of the Stamford-based promotion draw currently in the United States.
