Cody Rhodes in WWE

Cody Rhodes has established himself as a prominent wrestler in the wrestling industry. Rhodes rise from a rookie on WWE to being one of the founding forefathers of the AEW is really commendable. Cody Rhodes recently shed a light on his influence on the AEW, saying that it wouldn’t have been existed if it weren’t for him and his wife Brandi. Cody Rhodes also worked as a wrestler on the brand and became the TNT AEW Champion 3-times during his time on the promotion. Rhodes and his wife left the promotion in March of this year as they had some disagreements regarding their contract.

Cody Rhodes had a decent first run in the WWE during which he was praised for his gimmicks and character work, most notably the Dashing Cody Rhodes gimmick was praised by many, with some calling it the best work of his career. He left the company in 2016 due to frustrations with the Stardust gimmick and lack of creative freedom with the character. Rhodes wanted to stop playing the character and explore something new. After leaving WWE Rhodes polished his wrestling skills by joining independent circuits and ROH. He became a one-time ROH World Champion during his time at the promotion.

This year’s one of the best matches has got to be Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins at the Hell in a Cell, with the match getting 5-star rating from Dave Meltzer, the most he had given since 2011. The American Nightmare’s performance was lauded by many as he had fought despite the painful pectoral tear, he had suffered few days before the match.

During an interview with Stephanie Chase of Digital Spy in June, Seth Rollins had revealed how they both worked out with the injury during the match. Rollins said that he had never encountered anything like that before so it was new for him. Rollins said that it was a hurdle for him as he had never been in a situation like this before and trying to fit himself in that was an interesting process. Rollins termed the process as magic and said that sometimes they have roll with the punches.

While speaking on the latest edition of his podcast, Road Dogg spoke about whether he saw the potential of Cody as a singles wrestler. Road Dogg began by saying that he would have loved to work with the current version of Cody as the current Cody Rhodes is polished and has so much experience, while also has travelled around the world. Dogg said that during Cody’s early career, he thought that Cody would be a great Tag Team partner and would reach some heights but he didn’t seem to make it and thus Road Dogg felt that he didn’t see a lot potential in Rhodes early in his career.

“I would love to have had the Cody that I saw at Hell in the Cell. I would love to have worked a program with that dude because he had experience. He had gone around the world, worked with different people and learned, and man, he came back so polished. But at that time, I thought, Okay, he’s a good tag partner with DiBiase or Aaron Stevens, Mizdow, or his brother. I thought they were a great tag team and I thought that would go somewhere. But I didn’t see a lot of potential in him that early.”

Cody Rhodes is expected to return at the Royal Rumble next year, with many tipping him to win the event.
