Drew McIntyre‘s discontent with WWE‘s creative direction is affecting his role in the company. The Scottish Warrior has faced a shocking 12 consecutive title match losses ever since Elimination Chamber 2021. Therefore, Drew has shown concern with uncertainty and despair about his future.
Reports are indicating that McIntyre’s WWE contract is to expire, with negotiations for renewal ongoing since the summer of 2023. Talks have hit an impasse multiple times, raising concerns about his potential departure around WrestleMania 40 in April 2024. Drew even shared his discomfort with not being included on the Royal Rumble 2024 poster.
As posted by Wrestlelamia on X, reports from PWInsider have confirmed that the former WWE champion has still not signed a new deal. Tensions have been growing between the 38-year-old and the WWE ever since his loss at Clash of the Castle to Roman Reigns.
On the Raw Day 1 show, McIntyre unsuccessfully challenged Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, intensifying his frustration. Now openly questioning his standing in WWE, the former Intercontinental Champion’s future appears uncertain despite ongoing contract extension efforts. Despite the company’s efforts to secure a contract extension, McIntyre’s continued frustration could lead him to land a deal on the other side of the road to AEW, NJPW or TNA.
What direction could be Drew McIntyre heading to?
Fans have been speculating about what could be next for the Scottish Warrior. There are currently no clear plans for the 2020 Royal Rumble winner heading towards WrestleMania. The WWE Universe is speculating that this could lead to an interesting storyline going forward.
With Drew not able to chase the championships, he can vent out his anger and cost someone who is just an inch away from winning the Championship. Currently, there’s not a better pick than the ‘American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes.
With The Rock making his eventful return on Raw Day 1, WWE is seemingly heading towards The Rock vs. Roman for WrestleMania 40. As a result, this leaves Cody out for another match. Moreover, this opens a slot for The American Nightmare square off against another big star, Drew McIntyre. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for the pair on the Road to WrestleMania.
