Drew McIntyre reveals that WWE encourages released talents to follow in the footsteps of the former

Less than two months ago, the Stamford-based promotion pulled off one of its biggest talent cuts ever. The talent release was marked by the firing of some of the active wrestlers from the roster. That said, former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre recently weighed in on the latest round of talent cuts in WWE.

The Scottish Warrior recently appeared in an interview with Good Karma Wrestling. During the interview via No DQ, he remarked that WWE expects released superstars to take a page out of McIntyre’s playbook. The Scotsman was released from his WWE contract in 2014. However, McIntyre wasn’t bogged down by his firing and reinvented himself into an indispensable player in the game.

I hope they are inspired. From what I gather, the company literally tells people, ‘Do a Drew.’ My brother once said ‘you’ve become a verb.’ You have to go out there and reinvent yourself, grow your brand and make yourself more valuable. I believe that’s the advice that the company literally gives people and some of the Superstars that are released and come to me to ask for advice. Hopefully they’ll look at the template of what I did.

Furthermore, he expressed his utter distaste for the old model of released WWE superstars. He stated that the fired talents back in the day used to recreate the same WWE character on independent circuits. He described that template as a terrible business sense while advocating for wrestlers to reinvent themselves. Moreover, he praised Matt Cardona and Cody Rhodes, who also followed a similar path to McIntyre.
