Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has been one of the top stars in WWE for the past couple of years. He was an integral part of WWE programming during the pandemic era. Multiple sources reported a few months ago that McIntyre’s contract with WWE might be up in the coming months. Therefore, he was missing from action for months after his banger match against Gunther and Sheamus at WrestleMania 39.
New reports from PWInsider provided updates about the situation with McIntyre’s contract. Reports are that McIntyre has still not signed a renewal on his contract. His contract will be up in a few months, and he has not yet decided what direction he will be moving in. According to past reports, rumors speculated that McIntyre was not happy with his creative direction in WWE.
Therefore, fans speculated that McIntyre might not renew his WWE contract and jump ship to AEW. These speculations are rising again because of the new developments. After returning in July, McIntyre faced Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. However, he failed to dethrone the Ring General and moved on to a makeshift team with Riddle.
Currently, WWE has teased that McIntyre might turn heel on Riddle. For the past few weeks, they have been teaming up as part of a short program with the New Day and the Viking Raiders. Therefore, fans will have to wait and see if McIntyre will renew his contract or not.
Drew McIntyre might turn heel on Matt Riddle
On recent episodes of Raw, Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle have been working together. However, rumors and reports suggest that this might not last very long. Fans speculate that Drew might soon turn heel and blindside Riddle. This would set up a feud between the two. It was also speculated that this would also mark the return of Randy Orton to WWE after over a year.
The rivalry might make sense as Randy Orton was Riddle’s tag team partner before multiple injuries put him on the shelf. Therefore, he can come out to save his partner and slide into the programming regularly. Additionally, Randy Orton was one of the most memorable opponents for McIntyre when he was the WWE champion in 2020.
Therefore, if Drew turns to the dark side soon and dominates the roster on Raw, Randy Orton would be an ideal choice to face off against the former champion. The two have enough history to re-ignite their feud. The last time they faced each other, fans were not allowed in attendance. Therefore, the program can be developed differently between the two.
