At present, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is widely regarded as one of the Mount Rushmore of WWE. However, the Brahma Bull didn’t reach the elite level easily. Before making it huge in WWE, The Rock was a college-level skilled football player. Now, days after the Joe Rogan interview, Johnson has broken his silence on social media regarding a career-altering decision.
Nearly a week ago, The People’s Champ sat down with UFC commentator Joe Rogan for an extended 3-hour candid conversation. During the podcast, The Rock made the shocking revelation that he decided to quit football in order to pursue a career in wrestling. Almost a week later, the WWE legend took to his Instagram to touch upon the same decision with his Instagram fanbase.
Taking it to Instagram, the 51-year-old recently shared an excerpt from his interview with Joe Rogan. In the uploaded video, the former WWE Champion could be seen talking about the most crucial decision of his life. He coupled his video with a long-winded, heartfelt caption. In the caption, The Rock yet again admitted to quitting football to pursue pro-wrestling.

Furthermore, his abrupt decision to switch careers led to a massive fight between his father and him, revealed the People’s Champ. He later added that the late Pat Patterson played a key role in kickstarting his wrestling career. In addition to this, Vince McMahon sent the former WWE Champion to Memphis, Tennessee, to understand the nitty-gritty of professional wrestling.
Dwayne Johnson recalls getting into a big fight with his father after he decided to quit football
Dwayne Johnson didn’t have an extensively long career in WWE. The Great One was merely in the company for over half a decade. However, the legacy he created in such a short time is everlasting. Despite the fact that his father, Rocky Johnson, was a professional wrestler, The Rock had to fight his own father in order to pursue his dream.
While speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Johnson recounted the time when he and his father got into a massive fight. This was after The Rock told the WWE Hall of Famer that he wanted to become a wrestler. Rocky Johnson, on the other hand, was strictly against this idea. Dwayne Johnson revealed that money was the sole reason why his father didn’t encourage his wrestling aspirations.
He didn't want me to do it and we got into the biggest f***ing fight. My mom's crying, I'm crying and he said, 'What do you think you have to offer?' I said, 'I don't know, maybe I'm gonna f***ing suck but I gotta give this a shot.Dwayne Johnson on Joe Rogan Experience
After going at it for quite some time, The Rock gave his father an ultimatum. The former asked his father to give him wrestling training, or else he would reach out to Bret Hart. The Brahma Bull added that he considered visiting Hitman Hart’s renowned wrestling facility, “The Dungeon,” had his father not agreed. Moreover, it was his career in WWE that opened the doors of Hollywood for The Rock.
