The Rock, a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson is arguably one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now. But before he gained popularity from his films, he used to rule the world of professional wrestling. During the Attitude Era, The Rock was one of the defining men to take WWE to the peaks that it is at now. He emerged as a prominent figure in the company.

The Brahma Bull has had many memorable feuds during his time with WWE. His rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H and Hulk Hogan defined wrestling for many fans during the era. One of the biggest rivals, The Rock faced, was a fellow Hollywood superstar, John Cena . In a recent interview, Dwayne Johnson revealed some details about working with Cena from 2011 to 2013.

While talking on The Late Show with Jimmy Kimmel, The Rock revealed that he had real problems with John Cena when they started working together in 2011. He explained how professional wrestling is predetermined, and both wrestlers work together to decide how the match goes and who the winner will be. Therefore, everything that is said in front of the audience is scripted.

The Hollywood icon added, “Our rivalry was, it was so real. We had real problems with each other.” However, he later clarified that as both superstars started working together, they resolved their issues are now very good friends. Dwayne Johnson also said that they shared great mutual respect and still have a great connection.

John Cena also followed in The Rock’s footsteps as he moved on to Hollywood and found success in movies as well. His roles in Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and Fast X have been highly acclaimed. Cena and The Rock have both appeared in ‘The Fast and Furious’ franchise and will continue in the following movies.

The Rock’s sporadic appearances in the WWE

The Rock moved on to Hollywood from WWE in 2002. Since then, The Great One has only made sporadic appearances in the company. However, Dwayne Johnson returned to the WWE in 2011. He came to set up a historic feud with John Cena, which continued for two consecutive WrestleMania.

Dwayne Johnson also had a match in the Royal Rumble with CM Punk. He defeated Punk and won the WWE Championship again for the first time in over a decade. After 2013, he would go back to making random appearances on Raw and SmackDown occasionally. His Hollywood schedule did not allow him to appear in WWE.

The Rock announced his retirement from pro wrestling in 2019. However, he made an appearance on the 20th anniversary of SmackDown in October 2019. This was his last appearance in the WWE. Ever since then, the WWE Universe has been waiting to see him back on WWE television.
