The Tribal Combat match at SummerSlam 2023 was met with polarizing opinions online. Roman Reigns defeated Jey Uso to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Without a doubt, he required outside interference to successfully beat his cousin. However, WWE made a blunder in the match as it defied the rules of the bout.
During the buildup to their grudge bout, the rules of the first-ever stipulation were laid out. This included keeping the position of “Tribal Chief” on the line and also no outside interference. Despite that, Solo Sikoa ended up interfering anyway, and in the closing stages of the match, Jimmy Uso betrayed Jey, helping Roman Reigns win.
Fans online were quick to point this out. Furthermore, the baffling structure of the fight led to many of them being outraged. A common belief was that Roman Reigns should have been punished for breaking the rules. Therefore, the winner was supposed to be Jey Uso. However, it did not happen, which left fans furious.
The main event was not the only bout in which similar blunders were made. During the Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar rubber match, the former hit his opponent with steel steps. This should have led to a disqualification loss for Cody, but apparently, the referee didn’t call for the bell.

WWE Universe reacts to rule breaking in Tribal Combat match at SummerSlam
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso completed their trilogy of matches at SummerSlam. It was a Tribal Combat bout for the Undisputed Universal Championship and the right to become the “Tribal Chief.” There was also a “no outside interference” stipulation in the bout. However, both Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso made their presence felt, helping the champion defeat Jey Uso. Fans were livid as they were quick to comment on the situation:
Besides this blatant rule-breaking, the fight was criticized as well. Some felt the ending was repetitive and too long, going over 36 minutes. Hopefully, the fans get a justified explanation about everything that transpired at the show. It will be interesting to see what transpires next week on SmackDown.
