Gunther has redefined the endangered glory of the Intercontinental Championship. Since grabbing the gold last year in June, he’s been absolutely ruthless and unstoppable. So far, the Austrian has remained undefeated in singles competition on the main roster. If there’s a few guys WWE has to protect at any cost, Gunther is one of them. During this year’s draft, The Ring General alongside Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci were moved to Monday nights.

After wreaking havoc on SmackDown in past 8 months, it’s time for Imperium to create some carnage on Raw. Although there are some viable challengers for Imperium’s leader on the red brand, fans are hooked for something huge. After witnessing Gunther’s invincible stint as of late, everyone wants to see him go against Roman Reigns.

For nearly 3 years, The Tribal Chief has been ruling this wrestling space. On May 27 at Night of Champions, Reigns will mark 1,000 days as the Universal Champion. Throughout his record-setting reign, Roman has encountered various opponents including some legends. However, The Head of the Table never crossed paths with Gunther. Even though a match between them is not possible at the moment, Gunther definitely sees this happening down the road.

“I think there’s no rush with that (match with Roman Reigns). I think he’s doing his thing right now and I’m very focused on doing my thing so, didn’t really have an urge to, like seek out for that confrontation yet but like you said, down the line, that’s definitely one of the matches that fans are looking forward to,” said Gunther via Post Wrestling.

This week on Raw, Mustafa Ali won a major No.1 contender battle-royal match. As a result, he’s now entitled to challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Title at Night of Champions. It’s an exciting and fresh matchup for The Ring General. Since the event goes down in Saudi Arabia, Ali is bound to receive a homecoming reaction.

At this point, it’s pretty hard to even imagine that there’s any serious chance of a title change. Although one can argue that the match result is highly predictable, the in-ring quality should be up to the mark. As for Gunther, he’s certain for a main-event push sooner than later.

There’s some early discussions about having him win next year’s Royal Rumble match. Earlier this year, the longest reigning IC Champion of the modern era created a new record. Gunther spent the maximum time in a Royal Rumble match having entered No.1 and was the last to get eliminated.
