The Ring General is slowly taking over WWE. As been his working tradition, Gunther enjoys wrestling smaller opponents rather than getting outmatched through size.

The current Intercontinental Champion loves to beat smaller opponents. As known, Gunther has surpassed 250 days holding that strap and tying it around his waist. Thrashing one accolade after another, he recently became the longest reigning holder of the Working Man’s Title in WWE of the past decade. Fans often wonder how it’s possible for Gunther to not have a single bad match in his entire career.

Well, here’s a secret. Throughout his journey, be it in United Kingdom or the States, The Ring General took pride in shredding the flesh off his opponents’ chest. But, the key point to note is, majority of them were outmatched by The Imperium leader’s physical attributes. While being the WWE NXT UK Champion, he had some rough battles with Ilja Dragunov and Tyler Bate.

When he debuted on the main-roster, Gunther was presented with comparatively smaller names like Ricochet, Rey Mysterio and Shinsuke Nakamura to name a few. Speaking on Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast, the 34-year-old revealed his personal preference criteria for his enemies in the ring. Before signing off, he mentioned how that battle with Braun Strowman left him unsettled.

“I think the ideal scenario for me is to have a small opponent, typical David against Goliath situation. That’s just personal preference. I take joy out of all the confrontations because — you mentioned Braun, who is a totally different situation for me out of nowhere because I rarely wrestle anyone that is taller than me, stronger than me, heavier than me. Usually, it’s smaller or same category.”

Initially, it was reported that Gunther will defend his Intercontinental Championship in a triple-threat match against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. As hard as it gets, this match would’ve slapped if happened. However, it now seems off the card. As per a latest report from Xero News, the current working plan calls for Brock Lesnar as Gunther’s opponent at the Grandest Stage of them all.

They came face-to-face during this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match, which brought the Alamodome crowd to their feets. The two behemoths ensured to give a little sneak-peak of what’s to come in the future, back in January. Also, the above report adds that the mentioned dream bout can very well be for the Intercontinental Title. As known, The Beast Incarnate has never been after a mid-card title in WWE. This should be interesting whenever happens.
