“It’s just like writing Roman Reigns off right now,” Former Women’s Champion SLAMS WWE for firing her without any reason in her peak

Former Women's Champion Jazz believes that she was on the same level as Roman Reigns during her run in WWE in the early 2000s.

Roman Reigns is arguably one of the biggest names in professional wrestling. Therefore, stars from the past often tend to make comparisons between their popularity during their peak years and Roman’s stardom now. Former Women’s Champion Jazz also recently made some comments in which she thought she was on the same level as Reigns during her time in the promotion.

While speaking on Ten Count podcast, Jazz recalled her time in WWE. She said, “I just pretty much carried the women’s division for two years. It’s just like writing Roman Reigns off right now and saying, ‘Hey brother, we ain’t got nothing for you.’ That’s a question that’s been sitting behind you know, just for making me wonder for the last 15 or 20 years like, what and how and why.”

The 51-year-old also said that WWE never gave her an explanation as to why she was not in the spotlight for women’s wrestling. She remembered the management telling her that the creative department did not have anything for her. As a result, she believed that this affected her momentum in the company. She said that she was ready to perform in front of fans and come up with her own feud. But WWE did not allow her to do so.

Jazz made her debut in WWE in 2001 after a brief stint in ECW. She would go on to have a moderately decent run in the WWE until her release in 2004. She would only make a short return in 2006, only to be released soon after. In the last decade, Jazz has worked for multiple promotions, including NWA, Stardom, Chikara, Impact Wrestling, and even making a short appearance in AEW.

Very few superstars in WWE are pushed to the top immediately after their debut. Legends like Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, and only a handful of others have won a championship only months following their debut on the main roster. Lesnar won the WWE Championship from The Rock at SummerSlam 2002. This was months after he made his debut on the RAW after Mania 18.

It appears as though Jazz might also have received the same treatment. She debuted at Survivor Series 2001 in a six-pack challenge for the vacant WWF Women’s Championship, which was won by Trish Stratus that night. However, Jazz would be the first challenger for Stratus after winning the title, as they feuded at the Royal Rumble 2002, with Jazz coming out on the losing end.

She would finally win the title on an episode of RAW in February 2002 after defeating the The Quintessential WWE Diva. Jazz would successfully defend her title at WrestleMania 18 against Trish Stratus and Lita in a triple-threat match. Therefore, it appeared as though WWE had big plans for the 51-year-old before they would give up on her. The company eventually released her due to a lack of creative storylines.
