“It was a surprise,” Top Raw star claims the Men’s WarGames participants at Survivor Series were not aware of CM Punk’s return

The aftermath of last year’s Men’s WarGames match at Survivor Series saw CM Punk stage an astonishing return to WWE. A couple of months removed from that unbelievable sight, that astronomical eruption at the Allstate Arena spoke volumes about the magnitude of that moment. Reports claimed that some talents knew Punk was going to appear to close the show. However, Jey Uso has a conflicting side of things.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the 38-year-old was inquired about the same topic. And ‘Main Event’ Jey confirmed that CM Punk’s comeback was entirely a surprise to almost everyone out there. Fightful Select previously reported that the superstars involved in the main event were made cognizant of The Best in the World’s traces before they went through that curtain. But that may not be true in Jey’s book.

He also brought up his viral clip that saw him whispering in Randy Orton‘s ears while Punk was basking in the adulation of his home crowd in Chicago. The Yeet Master didn’t forget to mention Seth Rollins’ emotional outburst. It was pure chaos.

No, it was a surprise. You could tell all of us, as soon as the music hit, we all stopped being in character. I think there’s a clip of me and Randy [Orton] in there talking that’s on the internet. You see Seth [Rollins] going half down there.

As Uso described, sometimes people think that they know everything until something completely catches them off guard. And that’s the beauty of this business. Punk’s return also saw him bury the hatchet following a decade-old quarrel with Triple H. Everything came full circle the moment his music blew the roof off the wrestling haven in Chicago.

Has WWE altered CM Punk’s WrestleMania plans?

This past Monday on Raw, CM Punk traded barbs with Cody Rhodes. The two superstars made some bold remarks about each other’s career trajectories. There was even physical contact at the end of their faceoff; however, both kept their sangfroid. A day after this segment took place, a premature report from Sports Illustrated claimed that Punk vs. Rhodes was the planned direction for WrestleMania 40.

It caused a stir as on-screen teases were implicitly pointing towards CM Punk’s showdown with Seth Rollins. Fans on the internet argued for just over a day, adjudicating that SI’s claim was nothing but misinformation. And it turned out to be true when Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated updated his article from earlier and apologized for the false information.

He claimed that it appeared to be a deliberate attempt at misinformation by people close to WWE. The outlet made amends as they iterated that Cody Rhodes is the outright favorite to win this weekend’s Royal Rumble match. They had Gunther in that spot, who then would’ve gone on to challenge Seth Rollins. However, it’s been disposed of, and Punk’s original WrestleMania plans are still intact.
