“They weren’t skilled wrestlers” – When Jim Ross revealed whether John Cena used his backstage influence to get a push for Nikki Bella

WWE legend John Cena is a busy juggernaut nowadays but this exactly wasn’t the case a few years ago when Cena was performing full time in WWE until 2016-17. To what should come as a no one’s surprise, he is one of the few people who can let Vince change his decisions upon his request due to the aura and respect he’s created for himself in everybody’s hearts.

During the last active of his WWE run, Cena was seen engaging on Television with his former fiance Nikki Bella. She is a former 2-time Divas champion and also held the record for holding that title for 301 days(longest reign with this title) Both were involved in a power couple feud against The Miz and Maryse in the spring of 2017.

At Wrestlemania that year,they teamed up to face Miz and Maryse in a mixed Tag-Team match which was won by Bella and John Cena after they performed their signatures viz Attitude Adjustment and Rack Attack on them simultaneously to pick up the win.

After the match ended, John Cena shockingly proposed his long-time partner Nikki in front of the jampacked World Camping Stadium to which she accepted the proposal and both celebrating afterwards by kissing each other. But did you know that John Cena has been allegedly said to be the narrator of Nikki Bella’s success in WWE?

A reality TV series named The Total Divas used to air on from July 2012 to Dec 2019 which mainly focused on giving some life insights about the women performing in WWE. Superstars like Ronda Rousey ,The Bella Twins, Natalya, Lana, Nia Jax, Naomi have all been a part of the show.

But, things got a little bit spicy when murmurings about Bella Twins’ increasing influence on the show started to churn out. The accusations were made that the show was mainly focusing on giving Nikki and Brie all the Screen time and else one was just a part of the show, nothing more. Some also even said that Nikki’s boyfriend John Cena was the main reason for that push. They said Cena used his backstage influence in WWE to get them more importance than everyone else.

Former Divas Champion AJ Lee delivered a pipebomb insulting all the cast members of Total Divas on August 26, 2013 episode of Monday Night Raw. She even said that unlike many other she didn’t suck up to the right people to get herself a job in the WWE. She was constantly taking shots over The Bella Twins throughout her whole promo. Former WWE commentator Jim Ross also shared his thoughts on Cena using his backstage powers to push Nikki Bella. Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, he said

If I had a girlfriend that looked like Nikki Bella, would I push for her to get her a better gig or more exposure? Hell yeah! You crazy? Of course I would. It’s gonna be Vince’s call at the end of the day but bottomline, I never saw her in a position, and her sister, that they didn’t fit. They weren’t skilled wrestlers, they weren’t Jackie Moore or Becky Lynch or Charlotte, they were attractions.”

Speaking on whether he ever used his powers in a wrong way, JR insisted –

I don’t think John ever used his influence in a negative way to help somebody that didn’t deserve the help. Did he help some people? Hell yeah! But I think they all deserved the opportunity to get recognized, and all he did was say, hey, I think we could do some business with this person, or you could do some business with this person, and his opinion counted, so he utilized it, nothing wrong with that.”

John Cena and Nikki Bella are no longer in a relationship

Cena and Bella stared dating back in 2012 and finally after years of meeting, Cena proposed Bella at Wrestlemania 33.

Nearly a year later, on April 15, 2018 John Cena announced that he and Nikki Bella have decided to part ways from each other after 6 years of togetherness in a statement to US Daily. This news took the wrestling world to a storm as no one ever expected that this could also happen.

Coming in the present clock, both Cena and Bella have found their respective life partners and already living their new lives happily. Even after separating, Cena and Nikki have vowed to remain good friends.
