The current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and the Intercontinental Champion Gunther are both enjoying historic title reigns. Both have a similar personality, as they dominate the ring and will do whatever it takes to keep their gold. However, Kevin Owens pointed out a major difference between the title reigns of the dominant champions.
The Prizefighter gave an interview on theaminshow and talked about what fans could expect from this year’s WrestleMania. He stated that the main focus would be on the main event match between Reigns and Cody Rhodes. However, along with that, he also mentioned The Ring General and his legendary 634-day reign.
Owens gave one crucial reason why their title reigns are pretty different from each other. He stated that the Intercontinental Champion’s reign is better than Reigns’, in his opinion. Owens added that Gunther has defended the title on a more regular basis while appearing on weekly programming every week. The Tribal Chief often gets criticized for his lack of title defenses.
You know, Gunther's been on a run of a lifetime. Pretty much to me, probably as impressive... or even more impressive than Roman Reigns' title reign, because Gunther has been there every week, defending the title, and this is no slight on Roman at all, I'm just saying in terms of sheer defense.Kevin Owens on theaminshow
While Reigns will defend his title against Cody at WrestleMania, Gunther will battle the winner of the gauntlet match on Raw. Although his road to WrestleMania hasn’t been clear yet, it will be interesting to see how he will be a part of the Show of Shows.
Kevin Owens recalls how receiving a message from Stone Cold Steve Austin was the greatest thing that ever happened to him
Kevin Owens and WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin share a great relationship outside the ring. KO recalled the time when the legend sent him a message he has saved to this day. Both superstars closed out Night 1 of WrestleMania 38, with Austin defeating The Prizefighter in a No-Holds-Barred match.
He gave an interview on Inside The Ropes and talked about his experiences fighting his idol. Owens stated that he occasionally still watches the match. The 39-year-old spoke about how Austin called him to wish him a happy birthday a month after their match at WrestleMania.
A month later, after our match, it was my birthday. I somehow missed the call. My phone didn't ring. I don't know what happened. I just saw a voicemail from Steve Austin, and it's him singing me happy birthday on my birthday. It's probably the greatest thing that came out of that match. That message is saved forever.Kevin Owens speaking with Inside The Ropes
Owens main-evented two Wrestlemania’s in a row, with WrestleMania 38 and 39. The last one was probably his best, as he defeated The Usos and won the Tag Team Titles with his best friend, Sami Zayn. It will be interesting to see how WrestleMania 40 turns out for him.
