Konnan will induct his best friend Rey Mysterio in Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame induction is a very emotional moment for many legends who get their due recognition for years of hard work. This is why the inductees themselves have some say in who gets to bestow this prestigious honour on them. Now, it was recently reported that the latest addition to the Hall of Fame, Rey Mysterio, will be inducted by his lifelong friend Konnan.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that Mysterio himself asked for Konnan to induct him. This was confirmed later, as the request was eventually accepted by WWE. Meltzer writes in his recent tweet, “Konnan will be inducting Rey into the Hall of Fame. Rey asked for him and the company approved it. As noted last night, to me it was the only choice.”
Konnan has known Rey Mysterio since the latter was 11 years old. Despite having an age difference of almost 10 years, the two of them have shared a strong friendship that has remained intact over the years. Moreover, the WCW legend is also the godfather of his best friend’s son, Dominik.
The best friends duo often teamed together in the 90s and 2000s in promotions like AAA, WCW, and ECW. The two of them even won the WCW World Tag Team Championship in 1999 and remained with the promotion till its dying days. Nevertheless, Konnan was a superstar by his own merit, winning the world titles in AAA, EMLL, and IWC. The wrestling legend also won the World Television Championship in WCW. He was seen on AEW in 2021, marking his last televised appearance.

Rey Mysterio remains an active part of WWE SmackDown

While being 48 years old, Rey Mysterio has shown no signs of slowing down in the ring. The Greatest Luchador of All Time remains an active part of the weekly WWE programming and still gets to wrestle in his Lucha Libre style. The Master of 619 is currently feuding with his son Dominik Mysterio and The Judgment Day on TV heading into WrestleMania.
Many fans believed that Dominik might get his match against his father at WrestleMania this year. However, the recent news of the Hall of Fame has cast some shadow over these plans. Nonetheless, if WWE does pull the trigger on the feud at the Show of Shows, Rey Mysterio will become the first wrestler to compete at WrestleMania the same year he gets his Hall of Fame induction.
