Shawn Michaels is widely regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Michaels radiated charisma, had the finest in-ring skills, made his opponents seem good, and was terrific on the mic, making him one of the company’s top talkers. Michaels always made sure that he entertained the crowd.
He was given the tag of “Mr. WrestleMania” due to his remarkable performances at the event. Michaels retired from in-ring competition in 2010 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011.
Shawn Michaels appeared sporadically in the WWE after his retirement and even competed in a few matches in the WWE. The Heart Break Kid’s last match was at Crown Jewel 2018, where he teamed up with Triple H and defeated the “Brothers of Destruction”, Kane and Undertaker.
The match at Crown Jewel was the last time we saw Michaels in the wrestling ring. The bout was one of the worst of the year, demonstrating that the WWE Legends were fatigued and that their bodies are no longer at their peak as they have aged.
Shawn Michaels has been considered as one of the finest opponents he has ever faced by his peers and colleagues. Kurt Angle considers Michaels to be the finest he has ever faced. Angle revealed on a recent episode of his podcast that Michaels has the finest chemistry with any wrestler and that he has had the best battles of his career with Michaels.
“Shawn, he has the best chemistry with every wrestler. I’ve had my best matches with Shawn, everybody has their best matches with Shawn Michaels, that’s how good he is.”

Kurt Angle rates one wrestler above Shawn Michaels
In 2021, during an edition of his podcast, Kurt Angle was asked if Shawn Michaels was his favorite opponent ever, to which he replied that he would consider Shawn Michaels the top in every aspect of being a WWE Superstar. The charisma, chops, ring ability, athleticism and looks of Shawn Michaels had it all, but the only one that was actually better than Michaels in the ring was none other than the Rabid Wolverine, Chris Benoit. The rivalry between the Rabid Wolverine and Kurt Angle was one of the most intense and physical rivalries of all time.
