The fifth match on the Crown Jewel 2023 card saw the United States Championship bout between Rey Mysterio and Logan Paul. The match delivered fans’ excitement as both men showcased their maneuvers. But a moment in Mysterio’s efforts to put down Paul saw him almost suffering an injury. Logan’s presence of mind had the situation in control, though.

During the matchup, Rey Mysterio was in momentum and jumped on the ropes to recoil back. The legendary luchador thought of doing a moonsault and landed on Logan’s shoulder to get slammed. However, the moment was delayed from Paul’s end as he opened his arms late to have Rey landing on him imperfectly.

The Maverick took Rey Mysterio off his body and somehow prevented him from falling back. The move was slowed for a bit, and Logan Paul took some time to recover from the catching effort and stand up. But all of it played down greatly in the end as Logan stood up and aggressively applied a power slam on The Master of 619. Watch the video here.

The dramatic closing moments of the match also elevated the overall quality of the bout. Logan used his heel tactics perfectly and eliminated Santos Escobar‘s help for Rey. The whole bout delivered accurately and saw The Maverick win his first-ever title in WWE, the United States Championship.

The closing moments of the United States Championship at Crown Jewel 2023 were dramatic enough. Logan Paul had planned his victory with his heel tactics and brought his manager, Jeffrey Levin, to hand over the brass knuckles. However, an interruption (later help) from Santos Escobar delayed the process.

Paul dropped the knuckles on the floor while Levin crawled to get them back. But Escobar came to beat the hell out of Jeffrey, keeping the knuckles on the apron (purposely). This particular moment has made it clear that Santos’ intention was the loss of Rey Mysterio.

This could play out later in the storyline and see Escobar’s revenge on Rey for winning the US Championship from Austin Theory. The Crown Jewel moment has planted seeds for this storyline angle, showing the breakup of LWO due to Escobar’s envious heel turn.
