Major upset on SmackDown! WWE veteran loses for the first time in 999 days
WWE veteran Carlito loses his first match in years as he teams up with Santos Escobar to take on the Street Profits on SmackDown.

The latest episode of SmackDown was a collection of great segments and matches. One of the matches that delivered on fans’ expectations was the tag team match between Santos Escobar, Carlito, and Street Profits. This was a part of the ongoing feud between the LWO and the newly formed faction by Bobby Lashley.
To everyone’s surprise, the Street Profits won the match against Escobar and Carlito. This marked the first time that Carlito lost a match in WWE in 999 days on television. This was also his first match on SmackDown since 2009. Therefore, the victory for Profits has additional significance. The match was also used to further the storyline between Rey Mysterio and Logan Paul.
The WWE Hall of Famer watched the match from backstage. This is when Maverick punches Mysterio, thus capturing the attention of Escobar and Carlito in the match. The Caribbean Cool walked away from the match to help Mysterio. However, this left Santos Escobar alone in the ring to defend against Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins.
Logan Paul will challenge Rey Mysterio for the United States Championship at Crown Jewel. Both superstars have an equal chance of winning the match. Therefore, the match will be spectacular, as both have great chemistry and can produce a banger.
The loss on SmackDown might result in Santos Escobar turning heel
Carlito and Santos Escobar lost their tag team match to the Street Profits on the latest episode of SmackDown. While it helped the Profits establish themselves as dominant, it also furthered the storyline for Escobar. The 39-year-old has been a babyface since his debut on the main roster. According to fans, Escobar’s character has now become mediocre and lacks a certain element.
WWE is slowly teasing a change in the same, as Santos Escobar might turn heel soon on Rey Mysterio. The recent loss on SmackDown might be part of that. Carlito left Escobar alone in the ring to get defeated by Ford and Dawkins as he ran to save Rey Mysterio. This could be used in a storyline in the future to provide a solid background when the former NXT star turns on his mentor.
This could also prove beneficial for LWO, as a new storyline and characters will elevate all members of the faction. Working with a legend like Rey Mysterio will only help them become bigger stars in WWE. Therefore, fans will have to wait and see when Escobar turns on Mysterio and how the story unfolds after that.
