WWE’s next premium live event Payback will be held at Pittsburgh next month. It is scheduled to emanate from the PPG Paints Arena on September 2nd. The event is primed to return after a brief hiatus with its last edition taking place in 2020. With just two weeks to go, WWE has already started laying foundation for the matches they’re planning for the namesake event.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the creative is once again focusing on having lesser number of matches for the night. For sure, Seth Rollins is slated to defend his World Heavyweight Title against Shinsuke Nakamura. Apart from that, Rhea Ripley too appears to finally have found a viable opponent for her title.

That said, Raquel Rodriguez has been gunning for The Eradicator for a while now. Apart from that, an inter-brand rivalry between The Miz and LA Knight has been heating up. Both superstars have traveled across RAW and SmackDown. As one would expect, Payback is possibly going to be their culmination point.

Also, WWE is locally advertising Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus’ steel cage match for the show. Moreover, Women’s Champion Iyo Sky is expected to make her first title defense at Payback. Names like Charlotte Flair and Asuka could possibly seek revenge for last week’s SmackDown.

Apart from these matches, there’s no word on what could be added to the pre-matured card. Additionally, Roman Reigns isn’t scheduled in any capacity for the premium live event. Neither the other Bloodline members are certain to compete.

What should main-event WWE Payback this year?

With The Bloodline’s saga going on a brief hiatus, WWE can finally shift their focus on others. That being said, the World Heavyweight Title needs to go last at Payback. Since its inception, the prestigious gold hasn’t been defended at any PLE main event.

Now that WWE has a perfect opportunity to seize the moment, Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura must headline the show in Pennsylvania. However, an argument can definitely be made for Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch. They allegedly got snubbed over their spot at SummerSlam.

Moreover, their rescheduled match on RAW last week received a bogus ending. Though their steel cage match appears big on paper, their rivalry hasn’t been that memorable as per the expectations. Going by this logic, it makes perfect sense to let Seth Rollins control the crowd through his presence in the main event.
