Jeff Hardy is one of the most remarkable names in the history of WWE. He has been a part of the iconic faction The Hardy Boyz most of his career. He also had an incredible singles run in the company, where he won the WWE Championship. However, Jeff Hardy’s title run remained short-lived, eventually ending at the hands of his brother. In a podcast, Matt Hardy revealed the reason behind his brother’s transient WWE Championship reign in the company.
During his singles career, Jeff Hardy won the Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship. However, one of the incredible chapters in his career began in 2008, when he defeated Edge and Triple H to capture his first WWE Championship Title. Nonetheless, his ephemeral title reign just lasted for 42 days, leaving the fans baffled. It was Matt Hardy’s interference that cost him the match and his WWE Title, eventually leading to a feud between the Hardy Boyz.
While speaking on “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy”, the elder Hardy brother made some interesting revelations. He said there were alternative plans to keep Jeff Hardy’s title reign a little longer. Matt stated that while some people wanted Jeff to be WWE Champion until WrestleMania 25, others were skeptical about his run. As a result, WWE Universe saw him turn on his brother Jeff Hardy in the Royal Rumble, eventually costing him his title.
Matt Hardy revealed that it was Triple H who was hesitant about entrusting Jeff with a long title reign. He said that Hunter was dubious about the duration of his WWE Championship run. The former WWE superstar also stated that Vince McMahon had optimistic thoughts about it, unlike others. However, Jeff Hardy was one of the most loved superstars in WWE. Therefore, the fans showed unfathomable support for him as the WWE champion and wanted him to have a longer run with the title.
