Mickie James is one of the most respected names in the world of professional wrestling. She’s a bonafide legend and has worked for various promotions throughout her journey. After debuting for WWE in 2005, James was given a chance for imminent notoriety, as she got inserted into a feud with Trish Stratus.

At Wrestlemania 22, she tasted gold and won the Women’s Championship, ending the magnificent run of Stratus at the top. Their saga is still cherished till date and is remembered as one of the best female feuds this industry has seen. However, life wasn’t always the same for James, as back during her OVW days, the current Impact star even thought of stepping away from wrestling.

During a recent interview on Wrestling with Rip Rogers, the female veteran disclosed exactly why she felt like quitting this gig. She mentioned how the company wasn’t recognising her efforts to become the absolute best, as they were keen on signing women of different genres. Mickie was disheartened to see getting herself overlooked and hence made up her mind to leave.

“I felt like I had this moment there in OVW where I was like, ‘what the hell,’ like, ‘I’m not even what they’re looking for,’ like, ‘I’ve dedicated all this energy all my time into perfecting my craft to be the best female wrestler, hopefully, in the world or at least one of, and they don’t even want female wrestlers,’ like ‘what am I doing wrong?’ and I almost quit,”.

It was OVW’s Head of Developmental of that time, Tommy Dreamer, who stopped an uncontrollable rollercoaster of Mickie James’ emotions and stopped her. The 5-time Women’s Champion was advised to go on a well-planned vacation, obviously to help swing her mood off. And luckily, it worked.

WWE cracked a deal with Impact Wrestling earlier this year to gain Mickie James for a special appearance. She went onto take part in 30-Woman Royal Rumble match. Most notably, she came out with her Impact Women’s Championship tied on her waist, which was surprising to say the least.

Although she had a few stare-downs and moments during the match, she failed to win the whole thing. Despite everything, it still was a newsworthy moment for the fans and they welcomed it with both hands.
