Paige and AJ Lee in WWE
Paige was one of the most talented wrestlers during her time in WWE. She comes from a family of professional wrestlers and her family runs a wrestling promotion named World Association of wrestling in Norwich, UK. Paige’s mother also runs an independent women’s wrestling promotion Bellatrix Female Warriors, which is also based in Norwich, UK. Paige wrestled around the independent circuit in UK, Scotland and USA from 2005 to 2011 and was signed to WWE in September, 2011. She made her WWE debut on NXT Brand and within a year won the NXT Women’s Championship.
Paige made her main roster debut on RAW in 2014 and has managed to become a two-time Divas Champion during her wrestling career in WWE. She was forced to retire from in-ring combat in 2018 owing to a neck injury sustained during a live event in December 2017 after she was kicked on the neck by Sasha Banks. That was the last match as of now that the former Divas Champion was involved in. Thereafter, she worked in backstage positions, including a brief stint as a SmackDown general manager. In addition, she managed the Kabuki warriors until October 2019 before contributing to WWE Backstage. On July 7 of this year, Paige’s contract with WWE expired, and she left the company.

Paige was involved in a feud with AJ Lee in 2014
Paige made her main roster debut on RAW in 2014, challenging AJ Lee to a Championship match that night. Lee, who had defended her championship at WrestleMania 30 in an invitational match, accepted Paige’s challenge and was defeated in the match. Paige then held the championship for 84 days before losing to Lee on a June episode of RAW. Lee was later beaten by Paige at SummerSlam 2014, although the latter couldn’t keep the title for long as she was defeated by Lee at the Night of Champions in September 2014, ending her second reign of 35 days.
In March 2015, AJ Lee and Paige formed a team when Lee saved Paige from an attack by the Bella Twins. Both women formed a team and defeated the Bellas at WrestleMania 31. Lee teamed with Paige and competed in her final match on RAW in six women tag team match. Thereafter she announced her in-ring retirement.
Paige recently remarked on Lee’s retirement in an interview at the Starcast, saying that no one knew it was her final bout and that Lee had informed her that she was unclear if she would continue after this. The former Divas Champion stated that she has been and still is extremely good friends with Lee, and that they have always attempted to keep the Kayfabe when travelling. She described Lee as a fairy godmother since she is incredibly helpful and a lucky charm for her.
“We didn’t really know it was going to be her last match. Afterward, she just told me ‘I don’t know if I’m going to continue after this’, so she didn’t let us know that which I think is really sweet because I love AJ [Lee] and we were such good friends – we still are good friends. I just mean that we were traveling together and we would always try to keep kayfabe.”
“So she would be in the front seat of the car while I was driving through the arena where the fans are and she would just be ducking underneath my jacket. She was my fairy godmother. She got a pair of Doc Martins when I was going to wrestle in the UK. I would have been so bummed out.”
AJ lee joined the Women of Wrestling Promotion in 2021 and will provide color commentary on the show in late 2022.
