Roman Reigns‘ journey to the top of the mountain wasn’t an easy one. The Undisputed Universal Champion had to fight through several hurdles before becoming The Tribal Chief. Without a doubt, Randy Orton played a key role in uplifting his status in the initial stages of his career. Recently, The Viper spoke on the subject and claimed that he deserved a percentage of Reigns’ merch sales.
While speaking with Kayla Braxton on WWE’s The Bump, Orton reminisced about the battles with his rival and heaped praise on him. The fourteen-time World Champion claimed that Roman Reigns headlining WrestleMania six times was a massive achievement. However, he believed that this kicked off in 2014 during their feud in the summer.
The pair faced off at SummerSlam that year, where the former Shield member gained his first singles win at a pay-per-view. Therefore, Randy Orton joked that he has a rightful claim to Roman Reigns’ merch sales. He jokingly referenced Scott Steiner‘s mathematics promo by adding that Braxton deserved half as well.
Orton’s rivalry with The Head of the Table goes way back to when the latter was a member of The Shield. In fact, the 43-year-old was involved in the faction’s first match at WrestleMania 29.
Furthermore, they would engage in several encounters down the line, including the feud between The Shield and the reunited stable of Evolution. The Legend Killer will once again compete against Roman Reigns at the upcoming Royal Rumble PLE in a fatal 4-way match, including LA Knight and AJ Styles.
Roman Reigns and Randy Orton to partake in contract signing on SmackDown
The buildup to Royal Rumble 2024 has been arguably the best in years. Both titular matches have gained steam, and the rest of the card looks strong with huge power. As such, the fatal 4-way bout for the Undisputed Universal Title might steal the show.
The storyline surrounding this has shown what happens when Roman Reigns doesn’t get things going his way on SmackDown. After Nick Aldis made the match official, The Tribal Chief was not at all happy with the decision and will react for the first time this week.
A contract signing between all participants was made official on the latest edition of the show. It looks as if Roman will be alone this time after his three opponents took out The Bloodline. For the first time in years, The Head of the Table will be facing a numerical disadvantage in his dominant title reign.
Therefore, the world around him has seemingly begun to spiral as the Road to WrestleMania kicks off. Even if Roman Reigns successfully defends his title at the Royal Rumble, he will have to watch out for The Rock, who threatened to dethrone him weeks ago. The WWE Universe will have to wait and see how the upcoming months transpire for the champion.
